June 4, 2024 - The Deep East Texas Council of Governments (DETCOG) is extending its assistance program to families affected by the recent flooding in the region. The new deadline for applicants to apply is June 30, 2024.
DETCOG has opened a special application window just for those families in its 12-county service area who are displaced from their homes by flooding that occurred under the declared disaster. Those who qualify will move to the top of the waiting list and be processed as soon as possible.
May 17, 2024 - Deep East Texas Council of Governments (DETCOG) Board of Directors will hold their regular monthly meeting Thursday, May 23, 2024, at the Nacogdoches County Exposition & Civic Center at 3805 NW Stallings Drive in Nacogdoches, Texas. A Luncheon will be served at noon, and the Board meeting will be held immediately following lunch.
April 29, 2024 - The Deep East Texas Council of Governments (DETCOG) is offering assistance to families who were displaced by recent flooding in five counties of East Texas. The DETCOG Regional Housing Authority is accepting applications from affected persons in Newton, Shelby, Tyler, Hardin, and Jasper counties. These counties were included in the recent disaster declaration issued by Governor Greg Abbott.
April 3, 2024 - The Deep East Texas Council of Governments is soliciting public review and comment on the proposed changes to the Housing Choice Voucher Program Annual PHA Plan, Administrative Plan and Small Area Fair Market Rates (SAFMRs). DETCOG will receive written comments regarding the proposed changes during a 45-day public comment period to commence April 8, 2024, through May 23, 2024.
February 14, 2024 - Deep East Texas Council of Governments (DETCOG) Board of Directors will hold their regular monthly meeting Friday, February 23, 2024, at Larry Bruce Gardens at 3198 County Road 4600 in Kennard, Texas. A Luncheon will be served at noon, and the Board meeting will be held immediately following lunch.
Welcoming members and guests to Houston County will be Houston County Judge Jim Lovell, Mayor Pro Tem Donald Lamb Sr., and Houston County Commissioners Gary Lovell, Willie Kitchen, Gene Stokes, and Jimmy Henderson.
November 17, 2023 - The Commissioner of the Texas General Land Office, Dawn Buckingham, M.D., will be the featured speaker at the November meeting of the Deep East Texas Council of Governments (DETCOG) Board of Directors. The meeting will be held Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe Multi-Purpose Center located at 333 State Park Road 56, Livingston, Texas (between Livingston and Woodville off US Highway 190) beginning at 11:30 a.m.
October 24, 2023 - For many nursing home residents, someone to talk to is all they need. An ombudsman, a member of a group of volunteer resident advocates who work with nursing home residents, can be that someone.
Ombudsmen work with 34 nursing facilities throughout the Deep East Texas Region and 13 assisted living facilities. Each volunteer is paired with a facility, and visits that facility two hours every week.
