GLO Awards $32 Million in Flood Mitigation Grants in Deep East Texas

DETCOG Broadband Grant for Northern Newton County Receives $9 Million

March 16, 2021 – Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced Thursday that the General Land Office (GLO) has approved more than $32 million for various projects in Deep East Texas in the second round of grant funding for the GLO’s mitigation grant competitions. Among the projects approved is a rural broadband network to serve northern Newton County.

DETCOG Accepting Pre-Applications for Rental Assistance Waiting List Lottery

February 23, 2021 - The Deep East Texas Regional Housing Authority (DETCOG) will open its waiting list lottery for the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program and begin accepting pre-applications on Monday, March 1, 2021 at 8:00 a.m. CT through Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. CT. Pre-applications will be accepted online at https://www.waitlistcheck.com/TX2875 and will NOT be accepted at the Housing Authority's office, nor by fax or mail.

DETCOG Sponsoring Grant Writing, Management Workshops

February 9, 2021 - The Deep East Texas Council of Governments is teaming up with Grant Writing USA to sponsor workshops on Grant Writing and Administration. These workshops will be for people that are wanting to learn how to find and write proposals for grants, as well as people that are wanting to manage and stay in compliance with grants that they have already received. Due to COVID-19, both workshops will be held in a virtual, Zoom format.
 

Report from January DETCOG Board Meeting

January 29, 2021 - The Board of Directors of the Deep East Texas Council of Governments and Economic Development District (DETCOG) reviewed agency finances, approved regional solid waste grant awards, and took up a number of other matters during its January business meeting. The meeting was held January 28th via an online webinar.

Application Deadline Nearing for DETCOG Solid Waste Grants

January 3, 2021 - The deadline for receipt of Deep East Texas Council of Governments (DETCOG) Solid Waste Grant applications is 4:30 p.m. on Monday, January 11, 2021. DETCOG anticipates awarding grants totaling $36,305.62 for FY 2021.

Each application will be judged by the DETCOG Regional Solid Waste Advisory Committee (SWAC) in accordance with the SWAC Project Review and Scoring Guidelines. This year there can be up to 2 grants at a maximum of $18,152.00 each.

DETCOG Holding September Board Meeting Online

September 17, 2020 - Deep East Texas Council of Governments and Economic Development District is taking proactive measures to slow the spread of the Covid-19 virus. Therefore, the regular monthly board of directors meeting will be held online as a “Go to Meeting” webinar at noon on Thursday, September 24, 2020. Please note – there will be no in-person meeting.

DETCOG Receives Orientation; Trains on Ethics, Fiduciary Responsibility, Fraud

August 21, 2020 - Members of the Deep East Texas Council of Governments board of directors were given an orientation on DETCOG and its functions during the August 2020 board meeting.

Executive Director Lonnie Hunt led members of the board through the online orientation, which explained the basics of DETCOG’s responsibilities and membership in the Deep East Texas region. Other subjects discussed in the orientation were how officer roles are determined and promoted over time, the major programs DETCOG offers to the area and how DETCOG serves Deep East Texas.
