March 21, 2022 - The Board of Directors of the Deep East Texas Council of Governments (DETCOG) will meet Thursday, March 24th at the San Jacinto County Shelter located at 155 Live Oak in Coldspring, Texas. A luncheon begins at 12 noon with the business meeting to follow.
The Board will consider authorizing a Request for Proposals from organizations interested in providing senior citizen nutrition services in each of the 11 DETCOG counties. This includes congregate meals at local senior centers, home delivered meals, and other services.
October 25, 2021 - Deep East Texas Council of Governments (DETCOG) Solid Waste grant application deadline for FY 2022 is 4:30 p.m. on Monday, November 8, 2021. DETCOG anticipates awarding grants totaling $65,000.
October 20, 2021 – The Deep East Texas Regional Housing Authority (DETRHA) will open its waiting list lottery for the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program and begin accepting pre-applications on Monday, November 1, 2021 at 8:00 a.m. CT through Friday, December 31, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. CT. Pre-applications will be accepted online at https://www.waitlistcheck.com/TX2875 and will NOT be accepted at the Housing Authority's office, nor by fax or mail.
October 13, 2021 - Friday, October 15 is the beginning of the Medicare Annual Open Enrollment Period for 2021. This is the time of the year, if you are enrolled in Medicare, that has the most opportunity to make changes to your Medicare coverage. This period runs from October 15, 2021 until December 7, 2021 - Pearl Harbor Day.
September 23, 2021 - Deep East Texas Council of Governments (DETCOG) is now taking applications for funding of Solid Waste Projects for FY 2022. DETCOG anticipates awarding grants totaling $65,000.00 in FY 2022. Funding for this program is provided through the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
August 12, 2021 – The Deep East Texas Council of Governments’ Board of Directors will hold their regular monthly Board of Directors Meeting on August 26, 2021, at the Trinity County Courthouse Annex, located at 227 W. First Street in Groveton, Texas.
Welcoming members and guests to Trinity County are County Judge Doug Page, Mayor of Groveton Tommy Walton, County Commissioners Tommy Park, Mike Loftin, Neal Smith and Steven Truss, Trinity County Attorney Colton Hay and Trinity County Minority Representative Ralph Bennett.
July 15, 2021 - The Deep East Texas Council of Governments (DETCOG) is in the process of preparing a 20-Year Regional Solid Waste Plan for the 11-County Region. A meeting for review and comments on the plan has been scheduled for 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at the DETCOG Office at 1405 Kurth Drive in Lufkin. An initial draft of the Solid Waste Plan can be found on the DETCOG.gov web site at: www.detcog.gov/solid-waste-recycling.
June 10, 2021 - A draft copy of the Deep East Texas Council of Governments Regional Housing Authority Annual Plan for its 2021-2022 U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8 Rental Assistance) is now available for review and comment. This plan contains goals and strategies to promote adequate and affordable housing for low-income families in the Deep East Texas region. Input and support are solicited from all communities.
June 8, 2021 - Deep East Texas Council of Governments (DETCOG) will be holding a Fair Housing Seminar on Tuesday, June 15, 2021. The event will be held from 10am to noon, both online and at the DETCOG office at 1405 Kurth Drive in Lufkin.
Speakers for the seminar include Melaney Morris from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Keegan Warren-Clem. Ms. Warren-Clem is an attorney and adjunct professor at the University of Texas School of Law and McCombs School of Business.
June 8, 2021 - Deep East Texas Council of Governments (DETCOG) will be holding a seminar on Historically Underused Businesses (HUB), government contracting and employment. The presentation will explain what they are, how a business can qualify for the designation, registering with governmental agencies and becoming employed by a HUB. The HUB Seminar is scheduled for Tuesday, June 15, 2021. The event will be held from 1:30pm to 3:30pm, both online and at the DETCOG office at 1405 Kurth Drive in Lufkin
