Texas Historian Bill O'Neil to Speak at Delta Gamma Meeting

November 2, 2021 - Bill O'Neil will be the guest speaker at the November meeting for Delta Gamma, the local chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, an International Teachers Honor Society.  The public is invited to hear him speak about education in the early years of history.

The meeting will be at the First Baptist Church of Tenaha at 6pm on Monday, November 8.  A light meal will be provided. Please call Nora Robinson for more information- 936-248-2821.

Texas to Receive More Than 1.3 Million Doses of Pfizer’s Pediatric Vaccine

November 3, 2021 - The Texas Department of State Health Services has instructed the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to ship Pfizer’s pediatric COVID-19 vaccine to over 900 providers in 155 Texas counties over the next week. The CDC will deliver 1,010,700 doses of the vaccine to Texas vaccine providers and 349,200 doses will be delivered to pharmacies in the federal pharmacy program to vaccinate children between the ages of 5 and 11.

DRT Celebrates Stephen F. Austin's Birthday, Nov 3rd

November 3, 2021 - Stephen F. Austin was born on November 3, 1793, and is remembered as the ‘Father of Texas’ because he brought the first legal and successful group of colonists to Texas. The group consisted of 300 families from the United States. His father, Moses Austin, was the original recipient of the grant after he made a trip to Spanish Texas to request it. He was attacked on his way back to Missouri and became ill and died in 1821, shortly after his return to his home.

Perhaps you have “crossed your fingers” as a silent request for divine help or protection, or maybe you have asked other people to “keep your fingers crossed”. Some people, mostly children, also use the gesture to excuse their telling a white lie, or to invalidate a promise made. Crossing the first two fingers on your hand is a good luck sign recognized around the world.

Motorists Stay Alert as Deer Season Begins Nov. 6th

November 2, 2021 – Deer season in East Texas is scheduled to begin Saturday, Nov. 6. With the increased activity in wooded areas and along with the cooler weather, the deer population will be on the move. Motorists are urged to stay alert in pre-dawn hours and just after sunset.

Crashes involving a vehicle versus deer are already beginning to occur and TxDOT wants to remind drivers of the dangers involved with deer hits.

Notice of Application for Commercial Surface Pit Facility Permit (Pd Adv)

On October 14, 2021, Pilot Water Solutions SWD LLC, 20 Greenway Plaza, Ste 200, Houston, Texas 77046, filed an application with the Railroad Commission of Texas for a Commercial Surface Pit Facility Permit to washout trailers.

The proposed pit site is located 7 miles South East of Joaquin in Shelby County, Texas. The proposed disposal site is located on real property owned by John Leggett.
