Keeping the Legacy Alive for Daniels High School (Day 2)

May 2, 2018 - Dr. Charles E. Tatum, a resident of Houston but originally from Center, Texas, a retired professor and author of many books and articles about Shelby County, is someone for Daniels High Alumni to be very proud of today. He was a musician and played for several church choirs while in good health. He loved to plant a variety of flowers and trees that bare fruit in his gardens. We give a big shout out to Dr. Charles.

Keeping the Legacy Alive for Daniels High School

May 1, 2018 - The beginning of May brings back the memory of the closing of the Daniels School on Greer Street in Center, Texas some 50 years ago. The last graduating class 1968 was excited about graduation and the future that time holds for the classmates. Many students had finished before the class and were away or still in Center, Shelby County or surrounding areas. These students had a great love for the school where they were educated and some of them met and married their spouses. I imagine the feelings were mixed about the closing.

Termite Swarms Sighted

April 27, 2018 - Last week, our office got a call from one who saw a cloud of flying insects coming out of an old stump. “It almost looked like rising smoke, but it was all bugs,” they said.

What they saw were termites and those termites were swarming.

Adult reproductive termites are dark-brown to blackish insects, about 3/8 inch-long. Commonly referred to as “swarmers”, the job of reproductive termites is to mate and start new colonies. Termite swarmers may or may not have wings, as their wings often are shed shortly after flight.
