DSHS Reminds People It’s Not Too Late to Get a Flu Shot

December 16, 2017 - The Texas Department of State Health Services encourages people to protect themselves and their loved ones this holiday season by getting a flu shot now. With flu-like illness on the rise, it’s not too late for everyone 6 months old and older to get vaccinated. People can find out where flu shots are available at texasflu.org or by contacting their health care provider.

City of Tenaha Regular Scheduled Council Meeting Agenda

December 15, 2017 - If during the course of the meeting, any discussion of items on the Agenda that should be held in executive or closed session, the Council will convene in executive or closed session, in accordance with the Texas Open Meetings Act, Government Code Section 551.101 and Texas Revised Civil Statues.

The City Council of Tenaha will meet in regular session on Monday, December 18,2017 at 5:15 p.m. at the Tenaha Municipal Building located at 238 N. George Bowers Drive, Tenaha, Texas.

Family of Andrusick Issues "Thank You"

December 15, 2017 - The family of James Andrusick would like to thank each and every one of you for the cards, food, calls, thoughts and most of all prayers during this time in our lives. 

We would also like to say a special thank you to Mike Brister, Mangum Funeral Home, Darrell Williams, First Baptist Church, Center Police Department and the Shelby Co. Sheriff’s Office. It is a true blessing to know that we have kind and loving people surrounding us.

Forest Service Map Prices to Increase Jan. 1

December 15, 2017 - For the first time in nearly a decade, increasing costs of production, printing, and distribution are driving the need for the U.S. Forest Service to increase the price of its maps. Prices of National Forests and Grasslands in Texas maps will increase to $14 on Jan. 1.

Wilderness map prices will remain at $4.

The Forest Service continually updates its maps and looks for ways to enhance maps. The Forest Service expects to shorten the revision cycle as cartographers continue to apply new digital technology to the map revision process.

December 15, 2017 - In December we begin to hear many radio stations play the famous, old Christmas carols that we all love to hear. Most of these carols or hymns are very old and tell the true story of the Christmas season and the real reason for the season. One of these songs is “The Twelve Days of Christmas” which predates most of the other carols as it was first published in 1780. As examples, “Silent Night” was written around 1818, while “O Little Town of Bethlehem” was penned in 1868.

December 15, 2017 - It will forever remain a mystery as to what may have lured the late Victor Elliott to the flood-swollen Arkansas River near Fairfax, Okla., on that fateful spring day back in April of 1944. Perhaps he was running limb lines for catfish or poking around in the brush hoping to whack a rabbit or two to help feed his family. Or maybe he was just a 14-year-old kid on a leisurely stroll across the Oklahoma 18 bridge that has linked his hometown to nearby Ralston since the late-1930s.
