Shelby County Commissioners Lift Burn Ban

January 21, 2026 - The Shelby County Commissioners have lifted the burn ban on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, that was put in place on January 1, 2026.

it was agreed that if necessary, Judge Allison Harbison can put the ban back in place at any time.

Residents are encouraged to use caution when burning.

Grand Jury Cancelled for January 26

January 21, 2026 - The 273rd Judicial District Court that grand jury scheduled for Monday, January 26, 2026, has been cancelled due to inclement weather.

New summons will be reissued by mail.

TxDOT to Pre-Treat Roads Ahead of Winter Weather

January 20, 2026 - The Lufkin District of the Texas Department of Transportation will begin pre-treating roadway surfaces and bridges ahead of anticipated winter weather that could impact travel conditions.

January 19, 2026 - Emergency personnel with the Center Police Department responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Hurst and Nacogdoches Streets on Saturday, January 17, 2026.

Two Additional Suspects in Phillips Murder in Custody

January 18, 2026 - Two more suspects have been arrested for the murder of JaMichael Phillips, who was killed September 13, 2025, after being shot in the back of the head.

The arrest of the most recent two individuals brings the total suspects arrested thus far to six. The suspects are alleged to have fired on Phillips through his bedroom window as he attempted to flee.

Portions of Railroad Ave. in Center to Close for Construction

January 15, 2026 - Construction Notice: Railroad Avenue will be closed to traffic on the blocks between Louisiana Street and Shelbyville Street beginning January 19 for road construction.

Please be sure to remove all vehicles from the street.

Commissioners Leave Burn Ban in Place

January 7, 2026 - The Shelby County Commissioners decided to continue the burn ban on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, that was put in place on January 1, 2026.

This means that burning continues to be prohibited and anyone in violation may be subject to a burn ban violation citation.

AT&T Reports New Internet Outage, Estimated Restoration Time

January 13, 2026 - AT&T has reported another internet service outage and that customers may be experiencing an internet network interruption. AT&T reports their engineers are engaged and working to restore service quickly.

According to the ourage report, they expect to have internet restored by Wednesday January 14, at 2am CST.
