Controlled Burn in Arcadia This Week

March 7, 2023 - Greg Grant will be conducting controlled burns on three different pine plantings in Arcadia this week. Winds will be out of the south during the burns. In addition to creating scenic, open, park-like pine forests and promoting native grasses and wildflowers, regular prescribed fire reduces fuel loads, decreasing the chance of catastrophic wildfires during the summer; controls underbrush, diseases, and insects; and promotes wildlife habitat for deer, turkey, quail, pollinators, and declining pine savanna and grassland songbirds.

Joaquin VFD Reports 5 Medical Calls for Week of Feb. 26-Mar. 4

March 6, 2023 - The week of February 26th through March 4th added 5 more medical calls to the record for Joaquin Volunteer Fire Department. Here’s a summary of the week’s events.

Tuesday at 7:35pm a call was received for a female having trouble breathing on County Road 3598. The JVFD EMR team responded to provide oxygen with an assist from DeSoto Fire District 1. The patient was later transported by Allegiance EMS to an emergency room.

Choice Water System Rescinds Boil Water Notice

March 3, 2023 - On February 28, 2023, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality required the Choice public water system, 2100005 to issue a Boil Water Notice to inform customers, individuals, or employees that due to conditions which occurred recently in the public water system, the water from this public water system was required to be boiled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

DETCOG Submits Challenges to Texas Broadband Map

March 1, 2023 – The Deep East Texas Council of Governments has filed the required evidence with the Texas Broadband Development Office to challenge the accuracy of the new State Broadband Map. The challenge asserts that 46 census blocks in the 11-county DETCOG Region have significantly slower internet speeds than reported on the initial Texas Broadband Development Map. The state map will be used in determining how state and federal Broadband Internet Funds will be distributed around the state.
