February 11, 2019 - The Shelbyville boys will be playing in the East Texas Playoff Preview in Tenaha on Friday, February 15th versus East Chambers High School. Game time is 5:30 pm.

The Tenaha Tigers Varsity Boys Basketball Team took a 63-44 win over the visiting Garrison Bulldogs on Friday. This moved the Tiger’s District 22 Class 2A record to 8-3 and they stand at 9-5 overall for the season.

The Tigers jumped out to an early 17-0 lead and they led 19-2 at the conclusion of the first quarter. At the halftime intermission the Tigers held a 36-18 advantage. The Tigers never trailed and led 45-23 at the end of three quarters on the way to the 63-44 win.

Tenaha was led by JaQualin Franks with 17 points.  Teammate Jay Lloyd had ten points. Garrison was led by JaKadric Watts who had a 14 point night.

The Tigers will travel to Woden on Tuesday, January 12, 2019 for a 6:30 p.m. game with the Eagles. This will be Tenaha’s final conference game of the season.

February 8, 2019 - The following scrimmages today (February 8) have been cancelled. They will not be rescheduled: Baseball vs Kirbyville and Softball vs Marshall.

On Wednesday Tenaha Independent School District hosted a college Letter of Intent signing where student-athlete Jay Lloyd signed with Trinity Valley Community College of Athens Texas. Superintendent Scott Tyner kicked off the ceremonies and spoke of fond memories he had while attending TVCC where he gained an associate’s degree before moving on to Oklahoma State University to further his education. Tyner stated, “Community College football at Trinity Valley Community College is highly competitive and it is an opportunity to develop skills to move on to bigger things.”

The signing took place at the Tenaha Tiger’s Den in the school’s Administration Building with a crowd of about 70 people made up of Faculty, friends, family and press attending.

Lloyd will be pursuing a business degree. He said, “I chose TVCC because when I went on a visit they made it feel like home. I also have a friend Trai Gardner there.”

Loyd will be looked at to help the TVCC Cardinals as a defensive back. The team went 4-5 last year overall and held a 3-4 conference mark.

February 5, 2019 - Shelbyville Basketball varsity teams play February 5th at Tenaha. Varsity girls game is at 6pm and varsity boys to follow.

February 4, 2019 - (Team Totals/Brackets) - CHS take 2nd Overall in team points to start the spring tennis season.  Jacksonville hosted 12 Varsity tennis teams and the highlights/results are as follows:

Individual results:
Girls finished in the top 4 in 6 different brackets they participated in. Highlighted by a 1st place finish in Mixed B Dbls (Emilee Elliott/Lance Holloway) and a 2nd place finish in Girls A Dbls (Katie Nehring/Maddie Russell) 

Boys finished in the top 4 in 5 different brackets highlighted by 3rd place in Mixed A (Alec Dykes/CarolineScull), 3rd in Boys B Dbls (Jack Watlington/Collin Jones), as well as 3rd in Boys B Singles (Ian Williams).

Riders back in action next Friday to compete in the 16 school event hosted by Kilgore.

Center Roughriders Gymnasium, Friday, February 1, 2019 –

The Hudson Hornets came to Center High School on Friday to compete with the Roughriders in District 20 4-A varsity basketball competition. The Lady Roughriders defeated the Lady Hornets by a 58-39 margin. This improved Center’s overall record to 19-13 and their conference mark improves to 4-4.

The Lady ‘Riders held a narrow 10-8 point lead at the end of the first quarter. They outscored the Lady Hornets 17-10 in the second frame and took a 27-18 advantage into the midway break. Hudson was able to gain ground in the third period by outscoring Center 18-15. This cut Center’s lead to 42-36 going into the fourth stanza.

The Lady Roughrider’s defense stiffened in the final period as they outscored the Lady Hornets 16-3 on their way to taking the 58-39 win.

The Center Roughriders boys varsity team later fell to the Hudson by a 46-39 score. Center now stands at 7-16 for the year and are 1-5 in District 20 action.

Teravan Rhodes got the Hornets out to an early lead with four points in the first period which helped HHS get a 9-7 lead by the end of frame. The Hornets outscored the ‘Riders 12-5 in the second quarter and they took a 22-12 lead into the halftime intermission.

The Hornets led by as much as 15 points during the third stanza but Roughrider postman Chris Jackson scored four points just before the period ended. Center trailed Hudson 33-22 going into the final period.

Roughrider junior guard Jayden Hicks scored ten points in the final period to help close the gap but Hudson was able to hold on for the 46-39 win.

Jayden Hicks led the ‘Riders with 18 points, teammate Zacc Smith scored 9, and Chris Jackson 8. Cade Courtney led the Hornets with 16 points.

The Roughriders will host the Jasper Bulldogs on Friday, February 8, 2019. Girls varsity will tipoff at 6:30 p.m. with boys action to follow.

The Lady Roughriders will travel to Nacogdoches High School for a Bi-District playoff game with the Rusk Lady Eagles on Tuesday, April 12, 2019 at 6:30 p.m.

February 1, 2019 - The JHS Senior Night ceremony for basketball will be moved to Tuesday, February 12th immediately following the JV Boys Game.

February 1, 2019 - The Riders' district games in Center tonight will be broadcast by the Roughrider Radio Team on KQBB 100.5 fm. The broadcast starts at a slightly earlier time: 6:45 pm. The second half of the Varsity Girls will be covered from 6:45 until the end of the game. The girls are fighting hard for a playoff spot with all of their games--wins and losses alike-seemingly coming down to the last few shots! 

After the girls game, special guests senior Raman Randhawa and Coach Peters will join us for the Courtside Pre-game Show, while cheerleader Esther Mergerson is the special guest during the Abundant Love Ministries Halftime Show. The Varsity Boys need a win tonight to keep pace in the district race.

January 31, 2019 - The Center Recreation Department is proud to announce that the 2019 Spring Soccer, Softball, and Baseball signups will begin soon.
