The Timpson Bears took a non-district win during their season opener by defeating the visiting Frankston Indians by a commanding 68-24 score on Friday.

The game was close early and tied at 6-6 by the end of the first quarter. Braden Courtney gave THS a 12-6 lead when he broke free early in the second period for a 12-yard touchdown run. He scored again with 4:01 left in the first half to help boost the Bears lead to 19-6.

Bears quarterback Terry Bussey added a 52-yard keeper run for a score with 1:39 left in the second quarter and THS led 25-6 after a Logan Depaepe extra point kick.

Bussey added another long touchdown run early in the third period and Timpson led 31-6 but the Indians answered back moments later with a 32-yard keeper touchdown run by Brink Bizzell. This cut Timpson’s lead to 31-12. Courtney added two more touchdowns and a fumbled Indian’s extra point attempt return for a 100-yard 2-point conversion score to his resume in the third period as well. Timpson took a 61-18 lead into the fourth period and never looked back from that point of the contest.

The Bears will next travel to Alto High School for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff at Yellowjackets Stadium on Friday September 4, 2020. Alto lost to Troup High School by a 27-0 margin this week.

On Thursday afternoon the Center Roughriders held their own in preseason scrimmage football action with the Hemphill Hornets. The Center defense bent at times but did not break as they did a sound job for the day. Offensively, long scoring completions from ' Rider Jake Hanson to Chris Evans and Hollis Polk showed how explosive the Center offense can potentially be. A long weaving Red Horace 30-yard scoring run early gave CHS alot to get excited about heading into the regular season next week.

Center will head to Tatum High School next Friday, August 28, 2020 for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff with the Eagles. This will start regular season pre-district action for the year.
