June 7, 2018 - Vincent Cartwright in collaboration with Shelbyville Youth Sports is hosting a Shelby and Sabine County Youth Football Camp on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at the Shelbyville H.S. football field.

Special guest is Keith Davis who is a former American football safety in the National Football League for the Dallas Cowboys. He played college football at Sam Houston State University. 

Other current and former College and NFL players attending are Dominique Edison who is a former American football wide receiver drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the sixth round of the 2009 NFL Draft, Steven Cunigan (Stephen F. Austin), Trez Barnes (Midwestern State University), Theo Ghoston (McMurry University), Octavian Burrell (Hardin Simmons University), and along with others.

The camp is for youth ages 8 up to 17 years old. Registration is $10 and is 800am to 8:30am Saturday, June 16th! Campers will learn position specific high school, college, and NFL techniques.

June 6, 2018 - Thirteen year old Pacey Rhodes is headed to the Junior High Rodeo National Finals in Huron, South Dakota to be held June 25 thru 30th. Pacey is the son of Robbie Rhodes and Heather Rhodes, and grandson of J. T. and Jeanie Rhodes of Timpson.

Pacey competes in the Texas Region 5 Junior High Rodeo Association. His event is Chute Dogging. In the recent State Finals, Pacey placed first, with a time of 2.60 seconds, in the first round on Tuesday, May 29. First, with a time of 1.98 seconds, in the second round on Thursday, May 31. The short go on Saturday, June 2, got him a third, with the time of 4.90 seconds. After all the points and times were calculated, he was 4th in the state. This earned him four beautiful belt buckles, and more importantly, a spot in the Junior High Rodeo National Finals!

June 5, 2018 - Avengers Baseball is made up of tweleve 7-year-old boys with a love for the game. They started preparing for their season in October and have been full force since then. The boys have played in 9 tournaments this season taking the Championship status in 7 of those.

This group is dedicated to the game and only expect the best from each other and themselves every time they take the field.

The Avengers team has qualified to play in the USSSA World Series in Dallas July 4th - 8th.

Sponsor a player fundraiser through Facebook fundraisers will help the boys get to the World Series. You donate to sponsor one of the players on the team and the player with the most sponsorship donations will win a prize. In the end, all the donations will be divided among all the boys to help pay for hotel stay, feeding them and tournament fees.

May 22, 2018 - Shane Peveto from Timpson,Texas a 6’4” #220 Defensive Lineman was selected to attend the Blue-Grey National Super Combine in Dallas on June 2-3, 2018. 

Shane was invited to attend based on his performance at a regional combine held at the beginning of May in Sugar Land, Texas.

Shane is honored to have been selected in this national event. Based on his performance he will have the opportunity to play in the Blue- Grey National All American Bowl held at AT&T Stadium in Dallas or one of the other three locations held later this year.

May 17, 2018, Center High School – Senior Center High School student Mildred “Millie” Medina has signed a letter of intent to play soccer with Paris Junior College next season. Medina will graduate high school later this month and take her talents to the next level. She looks forward to pursuing a college degree in possibly business or the health field.

Paris Junior College has three campuses in Texas. They are at Paris, Greenville, and Sulphur Springs. The Paris Campus was established in 1624. They have about 5,000 students when all campuses are combined. The college prides itself in academics and has had several athletic successes as well, including a 2005 Men’s NJCAA Basketball Tournament Championship.

Medina said, “The people at Paris Junior College made me feel welcome. I will miss my friends and family here in Center but I am looking forward to next school year at PJC.”

Medina will be looked at to play forward with the Paris JC Dragon team for the 2018-2019 National Junior College Athletic Association’s Southwest Conference season.

May 14, 2018 - Shelbyville High School Senior Keanna Osby won the State Championship at the State Track Meet in Austin, TX held May 11-12, 2018 in both the 800M and the 400M Dash!

She holds the school record in both races with a 56:56 in the 400 meter and a 2:18 in the 800 meter. 

She has qualified for state four straight years and has now won 4 Gold medals and 3 Silver medals.

Congratulations Keke!! We are Dragon Proud!!

May 14, 2018 (Registration form) - The Lady Roughriders Summer Basketball camp for girls entering 1st through 8th grades will be held June 5th through June 8th in the Middle School Gym.

Camp will cover fundamentals, character training, success in competition, mental toughness and how to think the game.

Cost is $30 per Camper. All lady athletes will receive a camp T-shirt.

May 14, 2018 - The Center Rider Baseball team will face the Kilgore Bulldogs in the 4A Regional Quarterfinals starting with game one of a three game series on Thursday, May 17th. Ticket costs will be $6.00 Adults and $4.00 Students.

  • Game 1: Thursday 5/17 - Driller Park, Kilgore at 6pm 
  • Game 2: Friday 5/18 - The Horseshoe, Center High School at 6pm
