April 30, 2015 - Hello from Huxley Bay Marina. This is the fishing report from Marvin.

I've been out white/yellow bass fishing on the sand bars. And I have been catching some on lead slabs. As a bonus (depending on how you look at it) been getting a fair amount of Drum at the same time. It is always fun catching them.

The Crappie is still biting on little jigs and crappie nibblers. Been getting them in the shallows, about 5ft-9ft. Hear some people catching them on minnows so if you like using them they are still working.

Only things I have heard this week about the bass fishing is "it's slow". No good news from me there.

The cat fishing has been very good in the river channel on cut bait this week. Been seeing quite a few 7-10lbs pulled out of the water.

Good luck fishing from Huxley Bay Marina. Feel free to stop by with your fish and get your picture taken. We will post the pictures on the website @ facebook.com/huxleybaymarina.

April 28, 2015 - The Shelby County Bass Anglers (SCBA) held the 3rd event of the 2015 season last weekend out of Huxley Bay Marina on Toledo Bend Lake. 42 teams of anglers showed up to test their skills against these largemouth bass that were primarily in the post spawn state.

From left: Ryan Pinkston with a couple of his first place bass.Cole Cooper with a pair of his limit finishing in second place overall.Despite fishing solo, Ryan Pinkston managed to coax the largest limit of Toledo bass weighing 20.77lbs. The second overall big bass of 6.21lbs anchored his first place finish, which was sponsored by Construction Safety Product out of Nacogdoches.

The father/son team of Vic and Cole Cooper wrapped up the second place position with 19.02lbs. The duo reported catching numerous fish during the day. Cole is a student at Shelbyville High School.

Third place team of Andrea and Chris Cartwright reeled in a solid limit of bass tipping the scales at 18.98lbs. Rounding out the fourth place spot was another father/son team of Glen Earl and Moon Pie Sowell, who also had the overall big bass of the event weighing 6.32lbs. Their limit came in at 18.31lbs. The team combo pot was claimed by third place team of Andre/Chris Cartwright paired up with Greg McDonald and Brad Jones with a combined weight of 34.25lbs.

Overall, this seemed to be the best tournament in several years as far as limits of bass were concerned. The average weights per boat were up and overall number of fish brought into the scales was the most in several seasons. The fisheries are thriving and the SCBA is blessed to have these watersheds to take advantage of.

The Take a Kid Fishing tournament is scheduled for May 9th at Huxley Bay so be sure and get your children signed up for that event that has many great sponsors backing it. The next pre-tournament meeting for the SCBA is May 19th, with the May tournament to be held at Cassells-Boykin park on Lake Sam Rayburn. April 27, 2015 - The Center High School Track team traveled to Carthage High School on Wednesday, April 22nd for the Area Track Meet. Zara Sloan, a Junior, competed in the two mile and clocked a time only two seconds off of her personal best. She came up just short of a regional bid but did a great job.

To get to Regional, you must place in the top four teams and all three boys relays did just that and even clocked some of their best times all year. The boys 4x100 relay is made up of Sophomores, Joe King and Octavious Evans and Juniors, Sayoddrick Barnes and Dacorey McGee. The 4x200 relay consists of Sophomores, Joe King, Octavious Evans, and Adrian Johnson, and Junior Sayoddrick Barnes. The Boys Mile Relay qualifiers are Sophomores, Octavious Evans and Kyle Parks, and Juniors, Arnol Escobedo and Sayoddrick Barnes.

Arnol Escobedo also competed individually in the boys 800 meter run. Clocking his best time all year he came in an extremely close second and is headed to Regional next week.

The Regional Meet will be on May 1st and 2nd at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville.

April 24, 2015 - Water temp is in the 70's, the Crappie are deeper in the grass and the big Bream are starting to show up to spawn at Lake Murval. Catfish are there also, and you can catch them on earthworm and a slip bobber. Lake level has fluctuated but it has not affect the fishing much. Jigs with crappie nibblets are king but minnows on slip bobbers work well also....happy fishing.

Books Needed - Timpson Elementary School staff is requesting that if you have children's book that are appropriate for students in elementary school that you would like to donate, please bring them by the elementary office. We have a wonderful library where students can regularly check out books but we would like to increase the number of books students have access to in all of our classrooms. Reading is an essential skill for academic success and provides much enjoyment for students. We appreciate your help in getting as many books possible into the hands of our students. These books will also provide students with summer reading opportunities.

Dragons are now 5-6 in district play with 3 games left and need to run the table and also get some help to reach postseason.

Coach Turner has done an outstanding job this year keeping his team competitive in every game thus far. The dragons currently do not have a senior on the squad and the future looks very bright.
