March 24, 2015 - The Little Dribbler's season began in February and has culminated with two of their six teams qualifying for the National Tournament in Nacona on April 8th-11th. Coach Greg Jenkins, Coach Garry Davison, and Mr. Tyner began a Little Dribbler's chapter in Tenaha as a way to get younger athletes involved in basketball. Mrs. Carrie Jenkins and her husband were involved in Little Dribblers in Cayuga and brought their knowledge of the league here. "We are very proud of our kids and community for their efforts and achievements," Coach Jenkins said. " It took hard work from the Tenaha staff and volunteers to work the clocks, referee games, coach the teams, and give up their weekend for Little Dribblers to happen."

Girls and boys in grades 1 through 8 participated in the local league, and grades 3-8 were able to compete at the Regional Tournament last weekend in Central Heights. Out of the six teams that traveled to the three-day tournament, two advanced to Nationals. The Junior team consists of: 4th graders Luke Ward and Takavion Wilson; 3rd graders Ja'Tyrian Moore, Jordan Reese, Gauge Jordan, Kamarion Ross, Tra Scourton, and Dawson Williams; 2nd graders Brikelian Kenney and Ja'Torian Moore. Their coach is Jay Moore. Both squads will be competing against 13 other teams across the state of Texas. Jenkins added, "While we are very proud of the kids that made the national tournament, we are just as proud of the participation we had for all kids 1st through 8th grade. We look forward to building this thing into an even better experience for the kids and community as we move forward over the next few years."

In order to help with lodging and food costs during the tournament, the parents are having a bake sale in front of the Tiger Stop this Saturday, March 28th. The parents and kids would love for the community to come out and buy some cookies and cake to support their teams.

March 23, 2015 - The Shelby County Bass Anglers held the second event of the 2015 season last weekend at Cassells-Boykin Park on Lake Sam Rayburn. The lake was still rising from all of the recent rains and the bass were moving more shallow as the muddy water warmed up for spawning. This wet weather didn’t deter the 38 teams of anglers from putting on the rain gear and striking out in search of the winning stringers of bass.

Bobby Joe Cartwright and Michael “Lil Man” Gardner prevailed over Mother Nature and the rest of the anglers bringing in the heaviest limit of bass weighing 26.72lbs. The team reported catching their fish in shallow, stained water on chatterbaits. The second place big bass of the event, an 8.16lb lunker, anchored their winning sack. David Horton and Alan Horne captured the second place spot with 19.62lbs including the overall big bass tipping the scales at 8.22lbs. These fish were reported caught by flipping craw worms into the flooded buck brush. The third place team of John Olive and Jason Wells also reported flipping flooded buck brush with their third place limit of bass weighing 16.13lbs. Rounding out the money spots was the fourth place team of Purdell Sigler and Vernon Jackson with a hefty limit of Big Sam bass coming in to the scales at 15.92lbs. The team combo pot was won by Team “Big Deal” Jacob Permenter and Cody Barton paired with Bobby Addison and Clarence Sanderson for a nice combined pay day.

The next event is planned for April 25th-26th out of Huxley Bay Marina on Toledo Bend. Feel free to contact any member for information about the club, or visit our website at www.shelbycountybassanglers.com for more details.
