Joaquin Lady Rams Ballpark on Monday, March 13, 2023 –

The Joaquin Lady Rams varsity softball team improved their District 22 2A record to 2-0 with a convincing 16-1 win over the visiting Martinsville Lady Pirates on Monday. The win gives JHS a 13-5 overall standing.

Joaquin was able to hold Martinsville to a single hit in the top of the first inning. In the bottom half of the first, a 3-run homerun to centerfield by Brooklyn Bagley gave JHS a 3-0 run advantage and a 2-run shot later in the inning by teammate Kate Fuller gave the Lady Rams a 5-0 lead going into the second frame.

Good defense by JHS in the top of the second inning, and  a 2-out rally featuring 4 hits and 5 walks by Lady Rams batters allowed Joaquin to take a 13-0 lead by the end of the frame.

Martinsville scored a run in the top of the third inning but the Lady Rams turned a double play to end the inning with JHS leading 13-1.

The Lady Rams then got runs from Autumn Webb, Mariya Wilson and Tay Wilson which gave them the fifteen-run advantage at 16-1 which was needed to end the game in the third inning by mercy rule.

Joaquin will travel to Shelbyville High School tomorrow, March 14 for more District 22 action with junior varsity playing at 4:30 p.m. and varsity to follow at Lady Dragons Ballpark.

March 9, 2023 - The Joaquin Lady Rams powerlifting team competed at the Region 3 Powerlifting Meet on Saturday, March 4th in Eustace, Texas. Halle Bonner, Riley Mullins, and Emma Barton all represented our school well.

Each lifter hit personal best on many lifts. Emma Barton finished in 8th place in her division. Riley Mullins finished in 6th place in her division.

Halle Bonner finished 1st in her division and will represent Region 3 at the Texas High School Women's Powerlifting State Meet as the Regional Champion.

Congratulations girls on a very successful season and good luck Halle at State.

The Joaquin Lady Rams varsity softball team took a convincing 20-1 home win over the Mount Enterprise Lady Galcats on Tuesday. The win gave Joaquin a 12-5 season mark and opened their District 22 2A play with a 1-0 record. The contest was called after 2 ½ innings due to mercy rule.

Brooklyn Bagley pitched the entire nine outs for Joaquin and gave up just four hits, struck out five batters and she gave up no walks. Joaquin hit safely 15 times and walked three. Autumn Webb hit a two-run homerun over the right centerfield fence during a 16-run rally in the second inning.

The Lady Rams host the Martinsville Lady Pirates (0-1) at Joaquin High School on Friday, March 10, 2023 with Junior Varsity beginning at 4:30 p.m. and Varsity beginning at 6 p.m.

March 6, 2023 - Tickets for the Center vs Kilgore baseball game tomorrow, March 7, 2023 will be sold online. Cash will not be accepted at the gate. Adults are $4, school age students are $3, and under the age of 5 will be free.

March 1, 2023 - The Roughriders will play Houston Washington on March 3, 2023 at 8pm in the Region 3 AAAA Basketball Tournament at Bryan High School.

Region 3 AAAA Basketball Tournament is at Bryan High School in the Viking Gym, 3450 Campus Dr., Bryan, TX 77802 on March 3rd and 4th, 2023.

  • Game 1 is Friday at 6pm with Silsbee (Home Team) versus Furr (Visiting Team).
  • Game 2 is Friday at 8pm with Center (Home Team) versus Washington (Visiting Team).
  • Game 3 is Saturday at 1pm. The Home Team will be Top of Bracket and Visiting Team will be Bottom of Bracket.

Fan Parking Friday and Saturday

Parking will be available in multiple parking lots around the gymnasium. Bryan High School will have a home soccer game on Friday in addition to the tournament and parking lots are shared between the gymnasium and stadium. There will be plenty of parking available but please let your fans know that they may have to walk from a nearby parking lot to the gym. Please also warn your fans that Wal-Mart will tow if fans park in their lot for the game. 

Absolutely No Passes Will be Accepted For the Regional Tournament

Tickets will go on sale Wednesday online at https://www.bryanvikings.net/HTtickets and will be available for cash purchase at the gate. The ticket booth is located in front of the gymnasium. Ticket windows will open at 5pm on Friday and at 12 noon on Saturday.

Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $5 for students if purchased online in advance. All tickets will be $10 starting one hour before the first game both Friday and Saturday.

No Signs, Posters, Fatheads, etc.

Signs, posters, Fatheads, etc. will not be permitted within the gymnasium. These items can obstruct the view of other fans and therefore are not allowed. Coaches, please make this known to your fans.

Livingston High School on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 –

The Center Roughriders won a hard-fought Texas UIL Region III Quarterfinal Basketball win over the Little Cypress Mauriceville Bears, by a 53-46 score on Tuesday. Center jumped out to an early 4-0 point lead and they led 6-4 midway through the first stanza. At the end of the first quarter CHS held a 10-7 advantage. The Bears fought back to tie the ‘Riders at 19-19 midway through the second frame but Center held a 27-24 lead at halftime. The Roughriders led by as much as 11 points during the third quarter but LCMHS fought back to cut Center’s lead to seven points by the end of the third period.

Near the end of the game the Bears were forced to foul to stop the clock. Each, MarMar Evans, Tim Johnson, Kedrin Hinson, and Cash Cross, were called on to sink clutch free throws for the ‘Riders to save the win during the later stages of the narrow 53-46 win.

Cash Cross was the only Center player in double figures this game. He scored 27 points. The Bears were led by Alan Winn with 13 points.

Center, 29-4, will move on to face the Houston Washington High School Eagles (26-7) at Bryan High School on Friday, March 3, 2023 at 8 p.m. Washington is the winner of District 21-4A and Center is the top seed in District 17. The Eagles won their quarterfinal over Yates High by a 96-84 score. Center is currently on an 8 game winning streak and Washington is now on a 18 game winning streak.

February 28, 2023 – The Shelby County Family Life Center in partnership with the Shelby County C.A.V.E. (Caring About Vision and Expansion) will offer a Spring 2023 Basketball League specially designed for young children. Children will learn fundamental basketball skills such as learning how to dribble, shoot, pass, and other basketball skills and drills in a well-supervised and fun environment. The league will provide structure and knowledge and promote a lifestyle of recreational sports to youth at an early age.

This league is for boys and girls grades 1 to 5 (as of September 1, 2022). The five-game season will run from April 8 to May 6 at the Shelby County Family Life Center Gym located at 1426 ½ Shelbyville Street, Center, TX. Practice will be once a week and games will be conducted only on Saturdays at the Shelby Family Life Center. Fee includes cost for uniform.

Registration is March 15, 2023 (5pm-6pm) and March 18, 2023 (9am-11am) and the cost is $75 fee per player.

Late Signups are March 25, 2023 (9am-11am) and the cost is $90 late registration fee per player.

Central Heights High School on Monday, February 27, 2023 –

The Timpson Bears varsity basketball team took a 76-51 Texas UIL Quarterfinal Playoff win over the Tenaha Tigers. The win gave the Bears a 20-3 season mark and will advance them to the Semifinals where they will face the winner of Tuesday’s game between Grapeland and LaPoynor High Schools.

The Bears gained a 8-4 advantage midway through the first period and built it to a 21-13 lead by the end of the first quarter. Timpson led 33-25 at the midway break and 60-38 by the end of the third stanza.

The Bears were led by Terry Bussey with 25 points. Bears Vosky Howard, Jackson Campbell and Amare Bruton each had ten points apiece. Tenaha was led by Charles Hervey with 16 points and Kamarion Ross scored 10 points.

February 22, 2023 - The Shelbyville Boys Basketball team will play Friday, February 24 at 6pm at Henderson High School versus Hawkins. The Dragons are Visitors. Admission is $5 for Adults and $3 for Students. Senior Citizen, District, and Coaches passes will be accepted.

Rusk Eagles Gymnasium on Tuesday February 21, 2023 –

The Center Roughriders defeated the Madisonville Mustangs in a UIL Class 4A Basketball Bi-District Playoff, on Tuesday, by a narrow 63-62 final score. The game was played at Rusk Eagles High School, a neutral site. The Roughriders came in as the first place seed of District 17 and they now boast a 27-4 overall record. The Mustangs were the fourth-place representative of District 18 and finished the season with a 25-11 mark.

The game was close and hard-fought throughout. Center held a narrow 11-9 point lead midway through the first period. The game was tied at 17-17 at the end of the first period. Center gained a 25-21 advantage midway through the second frame and they led 37-31 at the midway break. Center outpaced the Mustangs 14-5 points in the third stanza to gain the biggest lead of the game. The Roughriders led 51-36 going into the final period of play. Madisonville was able to outscore CHS 26-12 in the final quarter but their comeback came up just short.

The Roughriders were led by Mar Mar Evans with 22 points, ‘Rider Cash Cross scored 14 and Bobo Gipson added 11 points to the Center tally sheet. Madisonville was led by Anqwan Morning and Cyrus Byrd who each scored 14 points apiece.

Center will next face the Hamshire-Fannett Longhorns on Friday, February 24, 2023 at 6 p.m. at Woodville Eagles Gymnasium. This will be the area round of the playoffs.
