Tenaha High School on Thursday, February 11, 2021 –

The Tenaha Lady Tigers Varsity Basketball Team defeated the West Sabine Lady Tigers 49-27 in a Texas UIL Basketball Bi-District Playoff game.

Tenaha jumped out to a 9-2 point lead by the midway point of the opening period and led 15-6 going into the second quarter. THS held a 26-16 advantage at the halftime intermission.

By the end of the third stanza Tenaha had boosted their lead to 20 points with a 40-20 lead.

Tenaha was led by Tiyanna Dagley with 12 points. Addy Duncan scored eight.

West Sabine was led scoring by Princess Hutchinson with 15 points.

The Lady Tigers will next face the winner of the Douglass versus Overton game, being played this Friday, to find out who their next opponent will be.

Besides this win, Tenaha Head Coach Gary Davison is having a great week as he was recognized as one of the 20 coaches this week to be acknowleged in the University Interscholastic League's 100th Years Celebration.

 

 

February 4, 2021 - Joaquin Youth Sports 2021 Baseball-Softball-Tee Ball-Wee Ball signups are underway! Signup dates at the Word of Faith Fellowship Hall are as follows:

  • Tuesday, February 9th, 6-8pm
  • Thursday, February 11th, 6-8pm
  • Saturday, February 13th, 9-11am

Information to bring:

  • Frist time player will need to bring a copy of the child's birth certificate

Information to know:

  • Due to COVID-19 we will not be trying on uniforms for sizing. We will provide a sizing chart to determine the size that your child will need. Uniforms will run pretty close to the same size as the previous year.
  • The cost is $85 for the first child; $80 for the second child; and $75 for the third child.
  • Age date for girls is January 1st and age date for boys is May 1st.

February 11, 2021 - Softball will not be traveling to Hemphill tomorrow, Friday, February 12, 2021. Game has been cancelled due to weather.

February 10, 2021 - The Lady Riders Basketball Playoff game vs La Vega High School has been rescheduled again. The game will be played at Athens High School on Saturday, February 13 at 2pm.

Tickets are $4 each plus a surcharge. Everyone must have a ticket, even children, no passes will be accepted.

February 9, 2021 - Tonight the 6-2 Center Roughriders face the Rusk Eagles in Rusk. The Lady Riders are off tonight as they prepare for the playoffs.

The Ray Jones Chevrolet Pre-Game Show begins at 6:15 (or immediately following the JV Boys game.) The Broadcast Team visits with Coach Harrison, then we replay last Tuesday's Senior Night ceremony.

Then at halftime the Abundant Love Ministries Halftime Show features Kennedy Bush's very unique interview with fellow cheerleader Tatum Mettauer.

As the last game concludes, we'll talk to Center Motor's Ford Tough Player of the Game during the Farmers State Bank Postgame Show.

Again, first tip-off around 6:30, pregame at 6:15.

February 8, 2021 - On Thursday night, Center Middle School Boys Basketball celebrated their last Middle School basketball game with parents, sponsors, and friends. The night was filled with surprise gifts from community sponsors and parents.

Center Middle School parents would like to thank the following sponsors for making this event special for these middle school kids: Jessie and Shanell Ruiz - DJ Jessie; Amanda Bush - Gaddy’s Medical Supply; Ben Wulf - Portacool; and Chris Tyre.

Joaquin Rams Gymnasium on Friday, February 5, 2021 -

The Tenaha Tigers girls and boys varsity basketball teams each took District 23 2A road wins over the hometown Joaquin Rams.

The girl's varsity game saw the Lady Tigers lead 6-2 at the midway point of the opening period and they held a 20-8 advantage at the conculsion of the first quarter. At halftime THS had built a 38-20 advantage.

Tenaha outpaced Joaquin 19-9 in the third stanza and they took a 57-29 lead into the final period of play. Joaquin outscored THS 9-8 in the final period but the Lady Tigers took the 65-38 conference win.

This was the final district contest for girl's District 23 play. The Lady Tigers will have a bye for Tuesday, February 9, 2021 and will begin playoffs later next week. Joaquin has concluded their 2021 season.

The Tenaha boys varsity team struggled early with the hometown Rams. Joaquin held a 7-3 point lead early and they had a 12-10 lead at the midway point od the first quarter. Joaquin led 22-19 at the conclusion of the first stanza.

Tenaha turned the tables in the second quarter and led 31-19 halfway through the period and 35-29 at halftime. They never trailed again and they eventually earned a 72-51 victory. The Tigers were led by Tre Keggler with 20 points, JJ Patton scored 15 and Trindon Claiborne added 12 to the Tiger's tally.

Joaquin two double-digit scorers Kaleb Oswalt with 14 points and Drake Jansen with 11.

Joaquin will next host the Shelbyville Dragons on Friday, February 12, 2021. The JV boys game will start at 5 p.m. with varity boys action to follow.

Tenaha will travel to Shelbyville for a 5 p.m. tipoff at Dragons Gymnasium on Tuesday, February 9, 2021.

February 4, 2021 - Center Recreation Department would like to announce Spring signups for Baseball, Soccer, and Softball. Sign-ups will be held at the Community House located at 425 San Augustine Street (across from Mangum Funeral Home) on February 2th and February 5th from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Boys and Girls ages 4-14 are encouraged to play.

If your child is new to playing these sports, please bring a birth certificate so their age can be verified.

Center Roughriders Gymnasium on February 2, 2021 –

The Center Lady Roughriders varsity basketball team held a 16-4 lead at the end of the first quarter over the visiting Carthage Lady Bulldogs on Tuesday. Center still held a 31-14 advantage at the midway break and seemed to be in control of the game and on their way to a lopsided victory.

The Lady Bulldogs played better in the second half and consistently chipped away at Center’s lead. They outpaced the Lady Roughriders 14-11 points in the third period and 20-8 in the final quarter but the Lady ‘Riders held on for a narrow 49-48 win. Amazingly in a game ending this close Carthage never led.

This improved Center’s record to 12-8 overall and their District 17 4A mark is 6-3 with one game remaining. They were led by JaKayla Parks with 19 points. Before the game Seniors JaKayla Parks and Alex Patton were recognized as the teams Senior Night Honorees.

Alyssa Wallace led Carthage with 14 points. The Lady Bulldogs are 4-5 in conference play.

The Center and Carthage varsity boys game was close and heavily contested as well. The game was tied at 16-16 at the end of the first quarter. At halftime Carthage held a narrow 27-26 advantage.

At the end of the third stanza the teams were once again tied, with 43 points apiece.

Center was able to outscore Carthage 20-17 in the final frame to take a 63-60 win home.

Jamarrion Evans led Center with 27 points. Before the contest senior athletes Jermaine Preston Jr., Jake Liker, Marquez Hall, Redd Horace, and Dreyven Emerson were recognized for their contributions within the program.

Carthage was led by Nick Stewart with 22 points.

Center is now 11-9 overall and 5-2 in district action with 3 games left.

Carthage is 9-2 and 6-1 in the conference.

Center will travel to Hudson on Friday, February 5, 2021. Tipoff, at Hornets Gym, will be at 5 p.m. for sub-varsity and varsity play will follow.

Joaquin High School on Friday, January 29, 2021 –

Timpson High School headed to Joaquin on Friday for District 23 2A high school basketball games. In varsity action the THS Lady Bears took a convincing 65-20 win over the Lady Rams. In boys varsity play the Bears beat the Rams 62-41.

The Lady Bears started the first period with an 8-0 run and led 22-3 at the end of the quarter. The second quarter saw them go on an 8-0 run and this helped them lead 35-12 at halftime. A 9-0 run in the third period allowed them to take a 52-16 lead into the final period of play.

Timpson had three ladies in double figures scoring. Harlie Ware scored 19 points, Claire Johnson 14 and McKenna Wynn 10. Joaquin was led by Kalie Brooks with 14 points.

The Lady Bears are in the playoffs with a 9-1 conference mark and a 16-4 overall record. The Lady Rams have been eliminated with two games remaining this season.

Boys action saw Timpson lead 10-2 midway through the opening stanza. They built a 14-6 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Bears outscored the Rams 14-7 in the second frame and took a 28-13 lead into the locker room at the midway intermission. The Bear outpaced the Rams 17-10 points in the third period and took a 45-23 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Bears are 5-4 in district play with three games remaining. Joaquin is 4-5.

Timpson will host Shelbyville for more high school basketball on Tuesday, February 2, 2021. JV will tipoff at 4:30 p.m. and varsity action will follow.

Joaquin will travel to San Augustine High School next Tuesday. Tipoff will begin at 4:30 p.m.
