The Timpson Bears and Shelbyville Dragons JV and Varsity basketball programs meet on Friday, January 8, 2021 to compete in District 23 2A conference action.

The Timpson Girls varsity was able to take a 39-30 win after trailing Shelbyville by a 7-8 score at the end of the first quarter and 15-12 at halftime. Claire Johnson and McKenna Wynn hit back-to-back 3-pointers which gave THS a narrow 21-18 lead midway through the third period. Timpson took a 23-21 lead into the final frame.

The fourth quarter saw the Lady Bears build their lead to nine points by the final buzzer and take the 39-30 win. High scorer for the Lady Bears was Harlie Ware with 12 points. Teammate Jaycee Campbell added 10 points to the THS tally.

Kiouja Gates led Shelbyville with 11 points.

In Boys Varsity action saw Shelbyville come away with a convincing 82-61 district win. Timpson led early after taking a 9-2 advantage in the early stages of the first quarter. Shelbyville tied the game at 17-17 by the end of the opening stanza.

Shelbyville built a 41-33 lead by halftime. They led 64-47 going into the fourth quarter and led by as many as 23 points in the final quarter.

Dragon LD Coleman had 32 points and Brayden Hand added 20 points to the SHS tally. Teammate Kory Standley also had double figures with 13 points for the day,

Timpson was led by Terry Bussey with 21 points and LT Washington with 12.

Shelbyville will travel to San Augustine on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 for JV and Varsity games which tip off at 4:30 p.m.

Timpson hosts Martinsville on Tuesday, January 12 with JV beginning at 4:30 p.m. and Varsity to follow.

January 7, 2021 - On November 7, 2020 Self Defense America held a Black Belt Exam. These are held separately from color belts due to the length (5 Hours) of the exam. We cover from white belt all the way to their current belt level, they have to demonstrate all kicks, strikes, blocks, stances, self defense, stick techniques, terminology, board breaks and brick breaks and also have a written part to the exam.

We like to say every Black Belt is a white belt who never gave up. We'd like to introduce our 2nd Dan Black Belts: Norman Isch, Tracie Galindo and Logan Galindo; and 1st Dan Black Belt, Rex Payne. We are so proud of you all!

January 7, 2021 - Taekwondo students at Self Defense America tested for new ranks. At the exam students are tested on their knowledge and skills. Once they have successfully completed the exam they received new strikes, blocks, kicks, stances, terminology and self defense.

The students who passed their exam were: Halee Green (Yellow), Ethan Castillo (Brown), Gwen Wagner (Yellow), Wyatt Foster (Yellow), Jaxx Fisher (Yellow), Carlos Lara Cervantes (Blue), Hunter Gibson (Black/White), Andrew Petry (Yellow), and Zachary Payne (Red). Congratulations to all of you for a job well done.

San Augustine High School on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 –

Tuesday’s District 23 2A basketball competition saw the varsity girls and boy’s teams from Tenaha take wins from hometown San Augustine.

Girl’s conference play saw the Lady Tigers jump out to an 18-12 lead by the end of first quarter. San Augustine outpaced THS 13-8 in the third stanza so Tenaha’s lead was cut to 26-25 by the midway point of the contest.

The game stayed close in the third frame and an offensive boost by Tenaha near the end of the quarter saw THS lead 36-33 going into the final period.

When the dust settled Tenaha had escaped with a 46-44 win.

Boys varsity action would also be close and hard fought. The Tigers looked to have pulled away early as they led 19-9 at the end of the first period and 34-22 at the halftime break.

 The third period saw San Augustine fight back and get to within seven points of tying the game with 3:44 left. Tenaha went on a run and built a 57-38 lead by the end of the third quarter.

The Tigers eventually staved off another SAHS comeback and they took a 68-58 win.

The Lady Tigers and Tigers will have another district contest at home on Monday, January 12, 2021. Junior varsity action tips off at 4:30 p.m. with varsity play to follow.

January 5, 2020 - The Tenaha Tigers' soccer season is underway! The girls team started off the season with a win against Palestine Westwood 4-0.

CHS Basketball Changes

  • January 5, 2021 - Lady Riders will be traveling to Rusk. Game starts at 5pm. Varsity only.  
  • January 8, 2021 - No fans will be allowed to attend the Lady Riders Basketball vs Jasper game in Jasper
  • January 22, 2021 - Lady Riders and Riders Basketball vs Rusk is now a home game. Game start at 5pm
  • February 9, 2021 - Riders Basketball vs Rusk will be traveling to Rusk. Game starts at 5pm 

CMS Basketball Home Game

Middle School Basketball Patrons, please note the following requirements for Middle School basketball home games:

  • All guests will be required to wear a face covering while at the event. You will not be allowed to enter without a face covering.

Executive Order GA-29 , regarding face coverings, applies to all UIL activities effective July 3, 2020. This includes the 2020-2021 school year. As the public health situation changes, and/or if subsequent Executive Orders are issued by Governor Greg Abbott, these guidelines may be further modified.

Exceptions to the wearing of face coverings or face shields include:

o Any person with a medical condition or disability that prevents wearing a face covering;
o While a person is consuming food or drink;
o When a congregating group of persons maintains at least 6 feet of social distancing; or
o Any other reason or circumstance indicated under Executive Order GA-29.

  • Social distancing will be required in the bleachers. Yellow tape is used to mark non-seating areas. Please only sit in allowable areas.
  • Individuals who are confirmed to have, suspected of having, are experiencing symptoms of, or have been in close contact with an individual who has been confirmed to have COVID-19 should not enter the facility.
  • We will follow all UIL guidelines for game attendance including the 50% capacity requirement. Therefore only family members of players will be allowed to attend. Students without a guardian will not be allowed to enter so that we have enough room for parents and family members.

CMS Lady Rider basketball games will be played in split gyms to allow for social distancing at games, The 7B & 8B games will be played at the intermediate gym while the 7A & 8A games will be played at the middle school gym. Games will start at 5:00 on Thursday, 1/7/21 with the 2nd games beginning immediately after the 7th grade games.

January 4, 2021 - On October 31, 2020 The Lil' Dragons at Self Defense America tested for new ranks. Theses students performed strikes, blocks, kicks and board breaks to move to their next ranks. We are pleased with their progress.

Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Tenaha Special Events Center –

The Tenaha Lady Tigers, and the Tigers, each took District 23 2A wins at home on Saturday as they competed in varsity basketball competition with visiting Timpson High School.

The Lady Tigers found themselves tied 12-12 with the Lady Bears at the end the first quarter of play.

Tenaha built a 4-point lead by the midway point of the second period and took a 27-21 lead into the intermission at the halftime break.

The Lady Tigers offense really got rolling in the third stanza as they outpaced the Lady Bears by a 15-6 margin. Tenaha took a 42-27 advantage into the final frame. Ultimately the Lady Tigers took a 56-41 conference win. The win moved their season mark to 10-1 and their District 23 record is at 3-0.

The Lady Bears conference mark is at 2-1 and they are 6-4 overall for the season.

Alisa Dodd led the Lady Tigers with 17 points. McKenna Wynn led Timpson with a 16-point outing.

In boys varsity play the Tenaha Tigers led 19-10 at the end of the first period. They led 28-22 at the midway break. Each team held their ground in the third stanza as they both scored 13 points apiece. They Tigers led 41-35 going into the final quarter. The final score saw Tenaha holding a 55-42 advantage.

Pooh Moore led Tenaha with 19 points. Tre Keggler added 14 points to the Tigers tally. Terry Bussey led Timpson with 12 points for the day.

Tenaha is 2-4 for the season and they hold a 1-1 District 23 2A mark. Timpson is at 4-4 this year and 1-1 in conference play.

Tenaha will go to San Augustine High School on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 where JV and Varsity will play and JV will tip off at 4:30 p.m.

Timpson will host Joaquin High on Tuesday with JV tipping off at 4:30 p.m. and Varsity following.
