September 2, 2022 - The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is making an historic investment in the future of our rapidly growing state. During our August Texas Transportation Commission meeting, we approved TxDOT’s 10-year transportation program that includes more than $85 billion dedicated to improving safety, addressing congestion and connectivity, and preserving roadways for Texas drivers.
March 30, 2020 - Applications are now available for the 2021 Don’t mess with Texas Scholarship Contest. This contest recognizes Texas high school seniors who are taking an active role in litter prevention in their school or community.
Work to clear local loops and other roadways beginning today
February 16, 2021 - TxDOT crews continue to work in 12-hour shifts to clear the roadways of snow and ice. After concentrating on major US highways, crews will move to local State Loops, State Highways and Farm Roads today. Applications of brine, rock and de-icer on major roadways are also planned today ahead of predicted ice and snow beginning Wednesday. Additional frozen precipitation will make driving more hazardous through the week.
November 18, 2020 - As deer season begins, motorists are urged to stay alert in pre-dawn hours and after dark. Deer are on the move through the nine-county Lufkin District and crashes involving vehicle versus deer have already been reported. TxDOT wants to remind drivers of the dangers of deer hits and the necessity to stay alert.

November 6, 2020 - The sound of baseball and the smell of barbecue fills a North Austin neighborhood. It’s the start of a new summer and 14-year-old Alexei Bauereis is walking his best friend home through a crosswalk.
Filled with the excitement only a new summer can bring, Alexei likely didn’t see the car speeding toward the crosswalk. The 19-year-old driver didn’t see Alexei either, because he was changing the music on his phone.
October 29, 2020 - A virtual pre-construction meeting was held by the Nacogdoches Area Office Wednesday, signaling the beginning of a new construction project in San Augustine County.
The project is designed to include the construction of passing lanes on US 96 from FM 3451 in San Augustine to SH 21 for 2.72 miles. Barricades and signage are scheduled to be set with work beginning on Nov. 9, weather permitting.
August 26, 2020 - TxDOT is reminding the public to stay alert to traffic signals that may not work in the case of power outages and possible flooded roadways during Hurricane Laura.
Traffic signals that are not working due to electrical power outages should be treated as a four-way stop intersection.
July 30, 2020 - The Texas Transportation Commission met virtually in Austin by audio Thursday and approved more than $947.2 million in new construction projects statewide and more than $37.8 million in maintenance contracts statewide. Commissioners also recognized Lufkin District Engineer Cheryl P. Flood upon her retirement after 38 years of service.
