TAGHS Welcomes Book Author Glenda Watters to January Meeting

January 7, 2020 - Glenda Watters, author of My Life Takes Up Too Much of My Time, will address Timpson Area Genealogy and Heritage Society Wednesday, January 15, in the community room of the Timpson Public Library.

Mrs. Watters, a self proclaimed story teller, was raised by adoptive parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Hebert, in Timpson. The collection of stories in her book, characterized as funny things that happen to real people, often draws on characters she met in Timpson. The meeting occurs at 2PM.

TAGHS to Hear from Ritter on Texas County Music Hall of Fame

October 16, 2019 - Tommie Ritter Smith, a favorite speaker, will address our group about The Texas Country Music Hall of Fame  and the events offered through it. Her husband, Bill, a well known gospel singer will favor us with some selections. 

The public is invited to attend. 

The meeting is in the community room of the Timpson Public Library at 2 PM, Wednesday, October 16.

New Columbia MBC Hosts Smith Family; Revival to Begin

October 1, 2019 - New Columbia Missionary Baptist Church will host the Smith Family in concert Saturday, October 5, at 6pm. A fellowship will follow. Anyone who loves to hear the Lord praised in song will enjoy the Smith Famiily.

New Columbia will be in revival October 6 through October 8 with services beginning at 7pm. Nathan Smith, of the Smith Family, will be the evangelist. Linda Ritter and Jim Slocumb will be in charge of music. We welcome everyone to join and encourage us in this revival effort.

Bill O.'Neal to Address TAGHS

September 17, 2019 - Bill O'Neal will introduce his new book, Billy and Olive Dixon: the Plainsman and His Lady to the Timpson Area Genealogy and Heritage Society Wednesday, September 18 at 2pm. Mr O'Neal makes history come alive, presenting little known aspects of otherwise well known historical figures. 

A popular and animated instructor at Panola for many years, Mr. O'Neal is the author of numerous books and published articles. He has also served two terms as Texas state historian.

TAGHS Featuring O'Neal as Upcoming Speaker

May 13, 2019 - Timpson Area Genealogy and Heritage Society is excited to announce Bill O'neal as our speaker Wednesday, May 15 at 2pm in the community room of the Timpson Public Library located on Austin Street.  

Mr. O'Neal is the author of 42 books and over 300 articles on a wide range of subject matter ranging from the Wild West to baseball. Several of us in the area were privileged to have Mr. O'Neal as our history teacher. He has the gift of making his subject matter come alive for his audience.

TAGHS Welcomes Roger Doyle for Wednesday's Program

April 17, 2019 - Timpson Area Genealogy and Heritage Society invites the public to join our members tomorrow, Wednesday, April 17, in the community room of the Timpson Public Library as we learn from Roger Doyle about preparation of the Civil War dead for burial.

Our previously scheduled speakers were Rachel Galan and Tony Souther, site managers at Caddo Mounds. Both these individuals were profoundly affected by the tornado Saturday.

We are very grateful to Mr. Doyle for stepping in to speak to us.

Timpson Area Geneaology, Heritage Society to Learn Alternative Sources for 1890 Census

October 16, 2018 - Nelta Nolan, of Vernon Parish Geneaology Society, will address Timpson Area Geneaology and Heritage Society Wednesday, October 17, at 2:00 PM at the regular monthly meeting. She wjll speak on "Alernative Sources for the 1890 Census." Ninety-nine percent of the federal census for this time frame was  destroyed by fire and flood. Of the almost 63 million records, only a little over 6000 were salvageable. Ms. Nolan will offer alternatives to this roadblock where many people tracing their roots find their effors derailed.
