April 29, 2022 – Southwestern Electric Power Co., an American Electric Power (Nasdaq: AEP) company, today announced the company is implementing a fuel surcharge to recover costs associated with the February 2021 winter storm. The surcharge will go into effect April 29, 2022, for Texas customers, as approved by the Public Utility Commission of Texas.
April 13, 2022 - Nearly 46,000 SWEPCO customers are without power after severe weather swept through the Ark-La-Tex overnight.
Damage assessors have reported downed power lines and fallen trees throughout the area.
Remember to stay away and keep children and pets away from downed lines. Treat all downed power lines as if they are energized and dangerous.
As of 6am today, about 40,000 customers in Northwest Louisiana and 8,400 customers in East Texas are without power. At the peak, about 65,000 customers were without power.

February 28, 2022 - The Public Utility Commission of Texas has approved a base rate increase for Southwestern Electric Power Co., a unit of American Electric Power (Nasdaq: AEP).
The PUCT approved the increase in base rates to recover SWEPCO’s investments in generation, transmission and distribution facilities since 2016, plus increased operations and maintenance costs to provide reliable and safe service to Texas customers. The Commission also approved cost recovery for the Dolet Hills Power Plant, which was retired Dec. 31, 2021.
November 22, 2021 – Southwestern Electric Power Co. encourages the public to be mindful of electrical safety during the holiday season. SWEPCO offers these seven safety tips:
1. Before putting up lights or other outdoor decorations, look up and stay clear of overhead power lines. Keep ladders, lights, tools and yourself at least 10 feet away from power lines.
November 16, 2021 - Southwestern Electric Power Co. reminds customers to be alert for scams. This week, the company joins Utilities United Against Scams (UUAS) to support International Fraud Awareness Week and recognize the sixth annual Utility Scam Awareness Day on Wednesday, Nov. 17.
Utility Scam Awareness Day is an advocacy and awareness campaign focused on educating customers and exposing the tactics used by scammers. This year’s theme is “End the Call. End the Scam.”
August 31, 2021 – Southwestern Electric Power Co. (SWEPCO) is sending crews to assist other utilities which sustained heavy damage from Hurricane Ida.
“Just as we had help from our American Electric Power sister companies and many other contractors in past storms like Hurricanes Laura and Delta, we provide assistance to other utilities,” said Drew Seidel, SWEPCO vice president of Distribution Region Operations. “Working through a mutual assistance network, we have been asked to provide approximately 200 distribution line and support personnel to Entergy Louisiana.”
July 15, 2021 – When the temperature rises, so can energy bills. Southwestern Electric Power Co. (SWEPCO), an American Electric Power (Nasdaq: AEP) company, offers 10 tips to help its customers manage both the heat and their electric bill:
1. Turn off lights and electronics when not in use.
2. Replace incandescent light bulbs with ENERGY STAR-certified LEDs.
3. Pull the plug on devices, like phone chargers, when not in use. These still consume energy even when turned off.
June 8, 2021 – Southwestern Electric Power Co. (SWEPCO) reminds customers to prepare for hurricane season, which began June 1 and continues through Nov. 30.
While SWEPCO’s three-state service territory is not directly on the Gulf Coast, Hurricanes Laura and Delta in 2020 showed the severe impact that strong storms can have as they move inland.
