SWEPCO Restores Power To Almost Half Impacted By Winter Storm

January 11, 2021 - SWEPCO has restored power to almost half of Louisiana and East Texas customers impacted by Sunday’s winter storm. As of 5:30 p.m. Monday, about 34,000 customers remained without power.

More than 400 line and tree personnel from SWEPCO, its sister company Public Service Company of Oklahoma, and outside contract crews are working to restore service.

SWEPCO Snow Storm Update

January 11, 2021 - Approximately 38,000 SWEPCO customers are without power as heavy, wet snow blankets East Texas and Louisiana.

Most outages are being caused by tree branches weighed down by snow coming into contact with a power line. Safety devices automatically de-energize the power lined when this occurs.

SWEPCO Participates in Fifth Annual Utility Scam Awareness Day

November 18, 2020 - Southwestern Electric Power Co. (SWEPCO), an American Electric Power (Nasdaq: AEP) company, joined Utilities United Against Scams (UUAS) today to recognize the fifth annual Utility Scam Awareness Day. Utility Scam Awareness Day is part of the weeklong International Scam Awareness Week, an advocacy and awareness campaign focused on educating customers and exposing the tactics used by scammers.

SWEPCO Proposes Rate Change for Texas Customers

October 14, 2020 – Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO), an American Electric Power (Nasdaq: AEP) company, has submitted a request to the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) for a net annual increase of $90.2 million in the company’s non-fuel base rates. On a total customer bill basis, the net increase is approximately 15.6%.

If approved, new rates would likely go into effect in the first billing cycle of January 2022.

SWEPCO Provides Initial Power Restoration Estimates, Anticipates New Storms, High Heat

August 28, 2020 - Southwestern Electric Power Co. (SWEPCO) estimates most customers in the Shreveport-Bossier area will have power restored by 10 p.m. Wednesday, and for Central Louisiana customers by 10 p.m. Thursday.
 
"Hurricane Laura was unprecedented, causing widespread damage to the power grid," said Drew Seidel, SWEPCO vice president of Region Distribution Operations. "Scattered thunderstorms forecast for today could cause new outages and hamper our progress on repairs."
 

Hurricane Laura Devastates Power Grid in Central Louisiana; Nearly 2,700 Workers Responding

August 27, 2020 – The intense winds and driving rains of Hurricane Laura shoved trees, utility poles and wires to the ground, leaving 94% of Southwestern Electric Power Co. (SWEPCO) customers in eight central Louisiana parishes without power.

At 5 p.m. today, with restoration in progress, 41,000 customers in DeSoto, Bienville, Grant, Natchitoches, Red River, Sabine, Winn and Vernon parishes remained without power.

In total, approximately 128,000 customers were without power, including 79,000 in the Shreveport-Bossier area, 8,100 in Texas and 400 in Arkansas.
