Beware: Scammers Targeting SWEPCO Customers

March 8, 2019 Shreveport – If someone contacts you with threats to disconnect electric service unless you make immediate payment – typically using a prepaid card or another non-traceable form of payment – be alert that you are likely the target of a scam.

Southwestern Electric Power Co. (SWEPCO) continues to receive reports that involve criminals posing as SWEPCO representatives contacting customers and demanding immediate payment. They use phone, in-person and online tactics.

SWEPCO Warns of Utility Scammers

January 31, 2019 Shreveport, LA – Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO) has received multiple reports that involve criminals posing as SWEPCO representatives calling customers and demanding immediate payment.

“These scammers are targeting vulnerable groups of people, including seniors, non-native English speakers, and small business owners,” said Karen Wissing, SWEPCO spokeswoman.

SWEPCO Prepares for Severe Storms

October 31, 2018 - SWEPCO is preparing for the potential impact of severe storms across much of its Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas service territory this afternoon and tonight. The storms are forecasted to bring 60 mph wind gusts and frequent lightning, with the possibility of flash floods and tornados.

SWEPCO is carefully monitoring the weather system, with crews on the alert and materials ready.

SWEPCO serves 535,000 customers in western Arkansas, northwest and central Louisiana, northeast Texas and the Texas Panhandle.
