June 16, 2023 - Emergency assessment and response is well underway by SWEPCO crews across the service area after powerful storms brought down trees in east Texas and into northwest Louisiana. As of 11 a.m., Friday, more than 237,000 customers were without power. Many roads were also blocked by some of the same downed trees that took down power lines.
Crews are working now to support four regional hospitals impacted by the extreme weather in Shreveport, Louisiana and Marshall and Longview, Texas to help make those facilities safe.
December 20, 2022 - Southwestern Electric Power Co. is urging customers to be prepared for a potential extreme winter weather event Thursday and Friday. Forecasts predict dangerous, below-freezing temperatures, high winds and some wintry precipitation across Arkansas, Texas and Louisiana. These factors can stress the electric grid and cause utility problems. SWEPCO personnel are prepared if power outages occur and are asking customers to do the same by following these tips.
November 16, 2022 – SWEPCO is joining utility organizations nationwide today on Utility Scam Awareness Day to raise awareness and educate customers about scams targeting electric, water and natural gas customers.
Scammers use phone, in-person and online tactics to elicit personal and financial information. Below are signs someone may be impersonating a SWEPCO employee to scam a customer.

November 3, 2022 – Southwestern Electric Power Co. crews are ready to respond should the severe storms forecast Wednesday for portions of Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas cause power outages.
When storms and high winds damage the electric grid, SWEPCO crews work as safely and quickly as possible to restore power. Once the storm passes, field personnel will begin assessing damage to the power grid and clearing downed power lines and other hazards.

Knowing what to do before you begin a project outdoors not only can help prevent serious injury or death, but can help you avoid possible fines, high repair costs and power outage.
September 27, 2022 – Southwestern Electric Power Co., an American Electric Power (Nasdaq: AEP) company, announced today that the company plans to send more than 300 personnel to Florida in preparation for Hurricane Ian.
The company has 106 employees and more than 200 contractors heading to Orlando to assist utility companies in restoration efforts after the hurricane makes landfall later this week.
August 16, 2022 – Southwestern Electric Power Co. announced today new measures to help residential customers facing high bills due to increased demand and rising fuel costs.
All SWEPCO residential customers can get their late fees waived and take advantage of an extended payment plan that gives them up to 12 months to pay their bill in full. In some cases, deposits can also be waived. These are similar programs offered during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
