Confederate Veterans June Meeting

June 18, 2019 - Capt. Jesse Amason Camp #282 Sons of Confederate Veterans will hold their regular monthly meeting June 24, 2019 at Las Margaritas Restaurant, 110 Nacogdoches St., Center at 6:30 PM. Come join us as we honor our Confederate Ancestors! All interested parties are encouraged to attend, and if any male with a relative who serve in the Confederate cause is eligible to join. If you aren't sure if you qualify please let us help you find out. The public is welcome. Those wishing to eat are asked to arrive about 6:00 PM so you’ll be ready for the program.

Fannie Brown Booth Memorial Library Temporarily Closure

June 18, 2019 - The Fannie Brown Booth Memorial Library Staff are sad to announce the library will be closed June 18th and June 19th, 2019, because the air conditioning unit has broken. Due to the time needed for repairs, there will be no Storytime or Crafternoon this Wednesday, June 19th, 2019. The library WILL, however, be back open on Thursday, June 20th, 2019, for the Summer Reading Program Events! They hope to see everyone there!

Pineywoods Photographic Society June Challenge Results

June 18, 2019 - The Piney Woods Photographic Society held their regular monthly meeting this past Saturday, June 15th, 2019. With the June challenge being "Motion", there was a wide variety of photographs submitted by club members for critique and voting. With a challenge of 24 outstanding and creative photographs, the members had an extremely had time picking their favorites.

Sam Houston State University Recognizes Two Hometown Students

June 17, 2019  Huntsville - Sam Houston State University would like to recognize William Cummings from Tenaha and  Alexus Ceasar-Walker of Center for earning the honor of being named to the Dean's List for the Spring 2019 semester.

The students listed on the Dean's List of Academic Honors at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, are undergraduates who have achieved a grade point average of at least 3.5 out of a perfect 4.0 in all work attempted while enrolled in not less than 12 semester hours. 

Hunger Awareness Month Canned Food Drive - Stomp Out Hunger

June 17, 2019 - In celebration of Hunger Awareness Month, Shelby County Outreach Ministries will have a Canned Food Drive from June 10th thru June 14th. Donations may be dropped off at Shelby County Outreach Ministries between 9-2 M-F.

Statistics say that 21.3% of people in Shelby County live in a food insecure home. This means that we have people in our community that are hungry and not sure where their next meal will come from.
