Transportation Commission Approves New Projects

December 13, 2023 - Texas Transportation Commissioners met Tuesday in Austin and approved more than $850 million in new construction projects statewide, with $11.1 million approved for the nine-county Lufkin District.

Trinity County was approved for a $9 million project that is earmarked for road resurfacing on US 287 from SH 94 to FM 355. Texas Materials Group, Inc., Cedar Park, TX, will serve as contractor for the project. No timeline for completion has been set.

Funding for Bolivar Peninsula Beach and Dune Restoration Project

December 13, 2023 - Today, Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, M.D. announced the approval of Coastal Erosion Planning & Response Act (CEPRA) funding for the Bolivar Peninsula Beach and Dune Restoration project. The Bolivar Peninsula Special Utility District, Bolivar Peninsula Chamber of Commerce, Galveston County Road Administrator Lee Crowder, Galveston County Judge Mark Henry, and Galveston County Precinct 2 Commissioner Joe Giusti played pivotal roles in securing this funding.

Cedar Fever Season Begins in Texas

December 12, 2023 - It’s time for Texans to brace for cedar fever season once again, complete with runny noses, itchy eyes and general misery. Cedar fever is an allergic reaction to the pollen released by mountain cedar trees, and unfortunately, you don’t have to be allergic to the pollen for it to affect you.

In Texas, the predominant species of mountain cedar is Ashe juniper, making cedar fever especially irritating in the Hill Country west of I-35 where there are primarily juniper trees mixed in with oaks and a few other species.

Windows of Light: Christmas in San Augustine!

December 12, 2023 - San Augustine has gone all-out this season to LIGHT UP our downtown! The businesses and individual owners have created magnificent window decorations. In addition, through our “Adopt a Window for Christmas” program almost all the store fronts are dressed for the occasion. Civic groups, Churches, Care facilities, and individuals have all come together to create a Christmas Card for residents and visitors. Bring your family and friends. Come at night to enjoy the bright lights in the windows and on the courthouse square.
