Grants Available Statewide for Eligible Light-duty Motor Vehicles Powered by Alternative Fuel

October 23, 2023 - Administered by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, the Texas Emissions Reduction Plan is now accepting applications for the Light-Duty Motor Vehicle Purchase or Lease Incentive Program (LDPLIP). Grants are available statewide for eligible new light-duty motor vehicles powered by alternative fuel purchased or leased in Texas on or after Sept. 1, 2023.

Grant That Will Improve Drug Use Data, Prevention in Texas

October 21, 2023 - A nearly $4 million grant will help Texas implement policies and programs to prevent the use of dangerous drugs like fentanyl. The Texas Department of State Health Services and Texas Health and Human Services Commission are partnering to create new tools to analyze the causes and effects of drug poisonings and then use that information to develop science-based strategies to prevent drug use and poisonings.

Dry Conditions Could Pose Challenges for Waterfowl Hunters This Season

October 21, 2023 - Lingering drought conditions throughout much of Texas could present challenges as waterfowl hunters prepare for the start of the new season. The dry habitat conditions in many parts of the state are not ideal for ducks and duck hunters, according to Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) biologists. However, weather pattern changes, timely cold fronts and significant rain could boost hunters’ prospects.

Early Voting Begins Oct. 23; Constitutional Amendment on Ballot Would Dedicate Surplus Funding Towards Parkland Acquisition, Maintenance

October 20, 2023 - Next week, Texans will have an opportunity to head to their local voting centers and cast their ballots on several constitutional amendments, including Proposition 14. If adopted, Prop 14 would create the Centennial Parks Conservation Fund, allocating $1 billion from state government surplus to acquire and develop new state parks across Texas.

The Centennial Parks Conservation Fund would not create a new tax for Texans and, if passed, would be the largest investment in parks in our state’s history.

October 20, 2023 - Good Morning! It's Friday, October 20.

There are many mythical creatures in human folklore, including dragons, unicorns, the Loch Ness Monster, the abominable snowman, and my personal favorite, Bigfoot. Also known as Sasquatch, this 10-foot-tall humanoid ape is said to roam the forests of America.  On this day in 1967, a 60-second film was made in Northern California of an alleged Bigfoot. You've probably seen it. For most folks, especially the skeptical ones like me, it looks like nothing more than a big guy in a gorilla suit.

VLB Votes to Provide Services to Texas Military Forces Members Killed in the Line of Duty

October 19, 2023 —Today, Veterans Land Board (VLB) Chairwoman and Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham M.D., along with fellow board members Judson Scott and James Rothfelder, voted to approve a policy that will provide Texas State Veterans Cemetery services to Texas Military Forces killed in the line of duty, free of charge.

We begin a new millennium today. This is Daily Devotion #1001. These little thoughts began going out during the last week of March in 2020. As they continue, three and a half years later, I thank you for being a faithful reader. On this special occasion I reprint a devotion from that very first week, one of my favorites, a story behind one of my favorite hymns.
