"Stubborn as a Mule" By Neal Murphy

October 18, 2023 - Have you ever heard someone say about a person, “He’s as stubborn as a mule?” Or perhaps even you have been called “mule headed” by others. I think we all know what the meaning of the word is, but are mules really stubborn? If someone is stubborn, it means that they are contrary, unwilling to change, or unwilling to do things that are expected of them. Some people say that the stubborn person “walks to the beat of his own drum.”

Attorney General Paxton Recognizes October As Domestic Violence Awareness Month

October 17, 2023 – For the ninth consecutive year, Office of the Attorney General (“OAG”) employees will participate in the Domestic Violence Awareness Month (“DVAM”) “Go Purple Day.” On Thursday, October 19th, OAG employees are encouraged to wear purple in support of survivors and raise awareness of and take a stand against domestic violence.

Independent Living Services for People with Disabilities

October 16, 2023 - Crockett Resource Center for Independent Living’s (CRCIL) Independent Living (IL) Services Program helps people with disabilities achieve greater independence in the home and community. Eligibility criteria for this program requires that the applicant has a significant disability who has been diagnosed by a licensed practitioner and resides in Texas.

Happy Tails Announces Howl-O-Ween Schedule

October 13, 2023 - A howling good time is expected as the Happy Tails Animal Shelter project hosts Howl-O-Ween from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, October 14, under the basketball pavilion at Portacool Park in Center.

Admission is free and open to the public. Attendees who would like to support the effort to bring Center and Shelby County an animal shelter and related services are invited to register to receive an event t-shirt and doggie bandana for a $25 donation.
