Angelina-Nacogdoches-San Augustine-Shelby County Producers Have Until Aug. 1 to Submit FSA County Committee Nominations

July 10, 2023 – Farmers and ranchers have until Aug. 1, 2023, to nominate candidates to serve on the Angelina-Nacogdoches-Trinity-San Augustine-Shelby County Farm Service Agency (FSA) Committee. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) accepts nominations each year in certain Local Administrative Areas (LAAs) for individuals to serve on these locally led committees.

“Is It a Violin or a Fiddle?” by Neal Murphy

July 10, 2023 - So, what is the difference between this musical instrument of four strings called either a violin or a fiddle?  They appear to be identical in physical appearance, and they sound the same regardless of whether being played by a male or female, professional musician, or an amateur.  There is a musician’s joke that appears to give us a clue to the question.

Question:  “What’s the difference between a fiddle and a violin?”
Answer: “You don’t spill beer on a violin.”

Texas Parks and Wildlife New Hunting Opportunities for Drawn Hunts

July 7, 2023 - New hunting opportunities and scenery are available to hunters this fall through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s (TPWD) drawn hunt permits program. The program, which issues permits for drawn hunts on both public and private lands throughout Texas, is now accepting applications for a shot at almost 10,000 permits in more than 60 high quality hunt categories.

July 7, 2023 - Summer Memories.. The month of July begins with the celebration of 4th of July. Several years ago the beginning of July was reserved for the C. H. Daniels School Alumni Reunion in Center, Texas. Those years are just memories now. With the hard work of the original reunion committee and the energy of the committee that was passed the torch in 2010 after a gap in years, the reunions have been successful. Scholarships were presented to seniors from profits, classmates were brought together, and relatives visited each other from out of town.

Do you remember "Show & Tell" Day from your childhood? It was usually Friday, and you could bring something special to school. You'd get up in front of your class (like the teacher!) and SHOW it off and TELL about it. I don't know if they still do that, but I hope they do.  It was fun!

Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council Cheers Fentanyl Crisis Laws

July 6, 2023 - Members of the prevention arm of the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council welcome the four new laws that will help in the state’s fight against the increasing impact of opioid fentanyl.

The laws, which were passed during the 88th Regular Legislative Session, will prosecute fentanyl deaths as murder, ensure death certificates pronounce the death was caused by fentanyl, provide more NARCAN to Texas colleges and universities, and educate young Texans about the dangers of opioid misuse.
