As you may have noticed, First Baptist Church of Center has chosen to move forward with the demolition of the former Center First Christian Church facility located at 124 Cora Street. This decision was not taken lightly as we understand and appreciate the spiritual and historical nature of the facility and what it has meant to generations of persons in Shelby County. So, how did we get to this point?

April 21, 2023 - April 21 is San Jacinto Day in Texas, which celebrates the final battle of the Texas Revolution in 1836 when Texas won its independence from Mexico. The battle was fought in present-day La Porte, Texas and lasted just 18 minutes before General Sam Houston defeated General Santa Anna’s Mexican army.

April 20, 2023 — Spring is the peak time for bird migration through Texas, but the bright lights of cities and towns can confuse birds as they fly to their northern breeding grounds. Texans are encouraged to help our winged friends on their journey by turning “Lights Out” at night across the state from April 22 through May 12.

April 19, 2023 - Good Morning! It’s Wednesday, April 19.
On this day, in 1964, John Lennon, just 24 years old, did an amazing thing. The Beatles were finishing their first movie, “A Hard Day’s Night,” but there was a problem, there was no title song. After a long day in the studio, the director asked John if he would write one. He came back - the next morning - with a song that would rise to number one in the world. Genius.
April 18, 2023 - Unidentified Flying Objects have been around for a long time now, the most notorious of these being the Roswell, New Mexico event. On July 7, 1947, a UFO crashed northwest of Roswell on a cattle ranch, scattering debris over a wide area. Several bodies of extraterrestrial beings were reportedly recovered and autopsied. The event was explained by the military as a weather balloon crash, there were no beings, and thus began the most notable cover up in American history.
