May 19, 2025 - Planning is underway for the 49th East Texas Poultry Festival, presented by Farmers State Bank. The Poultry Festival will be held October 2nd - 4th on the historic downtown Center square. Arts and Crafts vendor applications are being accepted at the Shelby County Chamber office until Friday, September 12th. May 16, 2025 - Texas experienced an increase in hunting accidents with last year, with 18 non-fatal hunting accidents and one fatality reported in the 2024 Texas Hunting Accident Report.

May 16, 2025 - Thursday was the first of many deadlines the legislature will reach over the next two and a half weeks. It’s the last day for the House to pass House Bills on second reading. After, the House will only pass Senate Bills until the Legislature adjourns Sine Die on June 2. Historically, only about one in five bills filed actually become law.

1. Bill creating Dementia Prevention and Research Institute goes to the Governor

May 15, 2025 - East Texas Communities Foundation has named Center High School (CHS) graduates Gracie Boyd, Alexandra Olalde and Trista Britt as recipients of the John Reagan Harris Scholarship.

Miss Boyd plans to attend Rice University in the fall focusing on a career in medicine. Miss Boyd was active in student government, National Honor Society, UIL One Act Play, debate and tennis as a student at Center High School.
