East Texas Poultry Festival Creative Arts Show Committee Looking for Participants

May 19, 2025 - The 49th Annual East Texas Poultry Festival, presented by Farmers State Bank, is right around the corner – October 2, 3 and 4. Don’t miss this opportunity to showcase your creative side in art, quilting, canning, crafts, woodworking, metal art and photography.

All creative art divisions and are open to Youth (6th through 12th grades) and Adults (17 and older). The art division will also be open to Elementary (K – through 5th). The Creative Arts Show is sponsored by Doches Credit Union.

49th Annual East Texas Poultry Festival Seeks Arts, Crafts Vendors

May 19, 2025 - Planning is underway for the 49th East Texas Poultry Festival, presented by Farmers State Bank. The Poultry Festival will be held October 2nd - 4th on the historic downtown Center square. Arts and Crafts vendor applications are being accepted at the Shelby County Chamber office until Friday, September 12th. May 16, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Friday, May 16.

Are you a jazz fan? I am. I especially like swing jazz, music that was hugely popular in the first half of the 20th century, and featured such legends as Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, Billie Holiday, and Benny Goodman. Less well known, but no less legendary, is Django Reinhardt, who died on May 16, 1952. He was, in my opinion, the greatest jazz guitarist of all time . . . and he played with just two fingers!

May 16, 2025 - Thursday was the first of many deadlines the legislature will reach over the next two and a half weeks. It’s the last day for the House to pass House Bills on second reading. After, the House will only pass Senate Bills until the Legislature adjourns Sine Die on June 2. Historically, only about one in five bills filed actually become law.

ETCF Recognizes Center High School Students With Scholarship

May 15, 2025 - East Texas Communities Foundation has named Center High School (CHS) graduates Gracie Boyd, Alexandra Olalde and Trista Britt as recipients of the John Reagan Harris Scholarship.

Miss Boyd plans to attend Rice University in the fall focusing on a career in medicine. Miss Boyd was active in student government, National Honor Society, UIL One Act Play, debate and tennis as a student at Center High School.
