City of Center Water System Update; Boil Water Notice Still Effective

Report any leaks to 598-2941 as soon as possible.

February 19, 2021 - As the system is being pressurized to restore water citywide, please report any and all obvious or apparent leaks to City Hall at 598-2941. Any leaks, loses or waste will further delay full system operation and ability to remove the boil water notice. Please call if you need to temporarily disconnect your meter because of water leaks.

This February, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in partnership with the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce Health & Fitness Committee and Allegiance Mobile Health recommends giving your heart love, too, by being aware of heart problems and the steps you can take to prevent them.

City of Center Water Supply Update

February 18, 2021 - Unfortunately, our water system succumbed to the amount of water lost to leaks and consistent running faucets. Despite repairs of all known system leaks by midday Wednesday, reported customer leaks have been at unprecedented levels since Tuesday and still continue. Most people in the city began experiencing lower pressure and limited water yesterday afternoon requiring a system-wide boil water notice.

SWEPCO Storm Update as of 8pm

February 17, 2021 - As of 8 p.m., about 21,300 SWEPCO customers are without power after a winter storm brought freezing rain, ice, sleet and snow to the Ark-La-Tex. SWEPCO continues to monitor the weather, which may cause additional outages.

SWEPCO has nearly 2,400 workers ready to restore power. Workers positioned before the storm in Texarkana and Longview will move to staging areas in Shreveport, Mansfield and Center, Texas.

The majority of outages are in Natchitoches and Sabine parishes in Louisiana.

SWEPCO Prepares for Severe Ice Storm; Customers Asked to Plan Ahead

February 16, 2021 - Southwestern Electric Power Co. (SWEPCO) is monitoring a second, potentially dangerous winter storm that may bring a mix of snow and more than half an inch of ice to the Ark-La-Tex Tuesday and Wednesday, potentially causing extended power outages.
 
SWEPCO is assembling a power restoration workforce of more than 2,600 utility linemen, tree trimmers and support personnel from 15 states and Canada to assist company resources. Workers will be positioned in Shreveport, Natchitoches, Longview and Texarkana.
 

Sabine County Beekeepers March Meeting

February 16, 2021 - The Sabine County Beekeepers will meet for our monthly meeting on Monday, March 1st at 6:30PM.

We meet every 1st Monday of the month at 6:30pm at the Sabine County Chamber of Commerce, on the square, downtown Hemphill. 

We welcome the public to come out and join us. We have no dues, or officers. This is for anyone interested in becoming a new beekeeper or an already experienced beekeeper. For more info, call James at (409) 625-4787. 

TxDOT Crews Continue to Work to Clear Roadways

Work to clear local loops and other roadways beginning today

February 16, 2021 - TxDOT crews continue to work in 12-hour shifts to clear the roadways of snow and ice. After concentrating on major US highways, crews will move to local State Loops, State Highways and Farm Roads today. Applications of brine, rock and de-icer on major roadways are also planned today ahead of predicted ice and snow beginning Wednesday. Additional frozen precipitation will make driving more hazardous through the week.
