On March 12, 1933 - 92 years ago tonight - a man sat down at a microphone and spoke to 60 million friends. Over the next twelve years, President Franklin Roosevelt would make many of these radio broadcasts, known as “fireside chats”, and he would always begin with the words, “My friends . . .”

Holiday Nursing & Rehabilitation Celebrating 4-Star Overall Rating

March 11, 2025 - Members of the community are invited to join the Chamber Board of Directors and Ambassadors in celebrating and recognizing the entire staff at Holiday Nursing and Rehabilitation on their achievement of a 4-Star Overall Rating with CMS. The Open House celebration will be Thursday, March 27th between 4pm-6pm and will include live music, refreshments and door prizes.

In 1922, the New York Herald newspaper published an article titled “What the World Will Look Like in One Hundred Years”. They chose novelist W. L. George to write it. Never heard of him? Few have. And even fewer have read one of his novels. But you have to admit, the man knew a thing or two about predicting the future.

March 10, 2025 - Most of us older folk remember when San Augustine was the home of a German prisoner of war camp. This camp was hastily built in the spring of 1944 on the site that was the fair grounds for many years. The site is now the location of the Rodeo grounds and high school football practice field on state highway 147, just north of the high school.
