Timpson VFD Fights House Fire; Cause Under Investigation

March 14, 2022 - The Timpson Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) responded to the house fire near the Panola County line, and Sheriff Kevin Windham confirmed the State Fire Marshal has been called in to determine the cause of the fire due to its suspicious nature.

According to the Timpson VFD, they responded to the house fire on CR 4916 on Sunday, March 13, 2022, and when the fire fighters arrived around 4:10am the house was fully involved in the fire and the residents had already evacuated from the structure.

Tenaha Man Arrested Following Alleged Assault of Two Officers

March 14, 2022 - Shelby County authorities engaged in a manhunt Saturday, March 12, 2022, when a suspect allegedly evaded apprehension, and assaulted a Shelby County Sheriff's Deputy.

Two-Vehicle Crash Near Intersection of Tenaha, Hurst Street

March 11, 2022 - Tenaha Street in Center near the intersection of Hurst Street was the scene of a two-vehicle crash Friday, March 11, 2022.

When emergency personnel arrived at the scene of the crash, one vehicle remained in the roadway and the other had been parked in a nearby parking lot.

N.E.W. Water System Rescinds Boil Water Notice

March 11, 2022 - The water on N.E.W. WSC no longer requires boiling.

On March 2, 2022, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality required the N.E.W. Water Supply, #2030034, to issue a Boil Water Notice to inform customers, individuals or employees that due to conditions which occurred recently in the public water system, the water from this public water system was required to be boiled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

Loop 500, SH7 East Scene of Two-Vehicle Crash

March 9, 2022 - State Highway 7 (SH7) East at the intersection of Loop 500 was the scene of a two-vehicle crash Wednesday, March 9, 2022, involving a truck-tractor and a pickup truck.

When Center Police Officers arrived at the scene, both vehicles were safely off the roadway.

Prescribed Burn in Arcadia Planned for Sunday

March 9, 2022 - Greg Grant will be conducting a controlled burn on his 20 acres of longleaf pine in Arcadia on Sunday, March 13. In addition to creating a scenic, open, park-like pine forest and promoting native grasses and wildflowers, regular prescribed fire reduces fuel loads, decreasing the chance of catastrophic fires during the summer; controls underbrush, diseases, and insects; and promotes wildlife habitat for deer, turkey, quail, pollinators, and pine savanna songbirds.

Jury Summons for March 14; Location Change

March 7, 2022 - The Jurors summoned for Monday, March 14, 2022, should report to the Windham Civic Center at 146 Express Blvd., Center, Texas 75935.

The Civic Center is located across from Whataburger on Hurst Street next to the Holiday Inn Express and the Hampton by Hilton. This change is due to the broken elevator at the Courthouse.

All Jurors should report to the Civic Center at 8:30am. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Sheriff’s Department Investigates Child Death

March 7, 2022 - The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the death of an 8 year-old child that occurred in the evening hours of March 6, 2022. The Texas Rangers have been called in to assist with this investigation.

This investigation is ongoing and no further information will be released at this time.

WSCVFD Saves Dog Trapped in Well

March 4, 2022 - The West Shelby County Volunteer Fire Department responded to a call of a dog trapped in a water well on Wednesday, March 1, 2022. It is believed the dog had been trapped in the well since the previous night.
