Former Shelbyville Dragon loses Life in Crash

November 4, 2018 - The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) investigated a one-vehicle crash early this morning on SH 147, about three miles south of San Augustine.

The preliminary crash investigation indicates at approximately 12:30 a.m., a 2014 Chevrolet passenger car was traveling north on SH 147. The driver was reportedly traveling at an unsafe speed when the vehicle drove off the roadway to the right, overcorrected to the left and crossed back over the roadway to the left and struck a tree.

SWEPCO Prepares for Severe Storms

October 31, 2018 - SWEPCO is preparing for the potential impact of severe storms across much of its Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas service territory this afternoon and tonight. The storms are forecasted to bring 60 mph wind gusts and frequent lightning, with the possibility of flash floods and tornados.

SWEPCO is carefully monitoring the weather system, with crews on the alert and materials ready.

SWEPCO serves 535,000 customers in western Arkansas, northwest and central Louisiana, northeast Texas and the Texas Panhandle.

Shelby County Man Arrested on Child Exploitation Charges

October 26, 2018 Beaumont, Texas — A 21-year-old Joaquin, Texas man has been arrested on child exploitation charges in the Eastern District of Texas, announced U.S. Attorney Joseph D. Brown today.

Alexander Nathan Barter was arrested on Friday, Oct. 19, 2018, in Joaquin, and appeared today in Beaumont before U.S. Magistrate Judge Keith Giblin for an initial appearance. 

Barter has been charged in a federal complaint with attempted coercion and enticement and will return to court on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2018 for detention and preliminary hearings.
