Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Warning Area Residents of Phone Scam

March 6, 2019 - A scammer has been calling Shelby County residents and telling them they’re going to be arrested for missing jury duty.

The only way to keep from being arrested, according to the scammer, is to purchase gift cards and give the caller the gift card information over the phone.

The caller states he is Lieutenant Del Birdwell of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office will NEVER call to warn an individual of an arrest warrant.
