Timpson will next move on to face Shiner High School in a state semifinal on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at 7 p.m. at Tomball Cougars Stadium. The Bears will be the home team.

Centerville took the early lead with an 11-play, 74-yard drive which saw junior fullback Paxton Hancock score on a 2-yard touchdown with 3:53 left in the opening quarter. Jake Pineda added an extra point kick to give CHS an early 7-0 advantage.

Timpson took only five plays to answer as they went 52 yards on their first drive and tied the game at 7-7 when sophomore Terry Bussey took a quarterback keeper run for a 31-yard touchdown and senior Logan Depaepe added an extra point kick with 1:34 left in the first quarter.

Centerville retook the lead at 13-7 with a 9-yard touchdown from junior receiver Zach Taylor with 3:51 left in the second period. The Tigers extra point attempt failed.

Timpson regained the lead when senior runningback Braden Courtney exploded for a 16-yard touchdown with 2:43 left in the second quarter. Another Depaepe extra point gave THS a 14-13 lead.

Timpson went up 20-13 with a 49-yard touchdown reception from sophomore Vosky Howard from Bussey with 10:23 left in the third stanza.

Another Courtney touchdown gave THS a 27-13 advantage with 6:16 left in the third quarter.

Bussey helped give Timpson a 34-13 lead with a 6-yard keeper run for a score with 9:30 left in the fourth quarter. Bussey moments later intercepted a pass to give the Bears possession at midfield with less than 8 minutes remaining in the contest.

Bussey hit Amare Bruton for an 8-yard touchdown reception with 7 minutes left in the game to give THS a 41-13 lead.

Howard intercepted a Tigers pass with 4:30 left in the contest. He was able to return the ball for an apparent score but a penalty backed the ball to the Centerville 18-yard line. Moments later Courtney wasted no time as he took the football in on an 18-yard touchdown run with 3:50 remaining in the game. The extra point kick by Depaepe gave Timpson the 48-13 final advantage.

The Bears are now 12-0. The Shiner Comanches are 14-0. They last defeated the Refugio Bobcats by a 55-14 score. Shiner derailed Timpson's 2020-21 playoff run a year ago when they defeated them 49-7 in the semifinals at New Caney High School.

November 30, 2021 - (Album, Album2 Photos by Jennifer Dykes) - The Center Tennis Association Thanksgiving Doubles Tennis Tournament was held Saturday, November 27, 2021, and 60 individuals were signed up to play in this inaugural event at the Coach Leon Dykes Center ISD Tennis Complex.

At the opening of the tournament, Center High School Tennis Coach Leon Dykes welcomed everyone and he explained the event wasn't only to help support the school program, but also as outreach to youth who may otherwise not have the opportunity to ever pick up a tennis racket.

"We've got a lot of things that we're trying to accomplish and this is day one, so this is awesome, thank you so much," said Dykes.

He then thanked Sharon K. Nelson and the remainder of the Center Tennis Association Board for their work in helping to get the tournament planned and for future events.

Coach Dykes remarked he has had some struggles lately which the community has helped him get through quickly.

"As many of you may know or may not know, I've had a lot of situations going on and I just want to thank you all so much for your thoughts and prayers," said Coach Dykes. "If it wasn't for this community I wouldn't be here so quickly back, I believe that, I truly do."

Rain was a constant threat to the tournament; however, it held off enough for everyone at the event to play and have an enjoyable time.

There's no charge to sign up as a member of the CTA. For more information you can text 936-591-1900 or email to breeves@crrefrig.com

The Tenaha Tigers season ended on Friday with a 17-10 overtime loss to the Chilton Pirates. The Tigers led through most of regulation play until Chilton tied the game with just six seconds to go in the game. The Pirates took their first lead in overtime, and then clinched a 17-10 win over No. 7 Tenaha to seize a huge Class 2A Division II area-round win.

The Tigers scored early after Jeremy Patton returned the opening kickoff 71 yards to the Chilton 8-yard line. Tenaha went up 3-0 when Manuel Loredo nailed a 25-yard field goal four plays later with 9:58 minutes remaining in the first quarter.

Both Tenaha and Chilton struggled moving the football in the first half and the two teams went into the locker rooms at halftime with THS holding the 3-0 lead.

Patton scored on a 2-yard touchdown run with 2:13 left in the third period. The score capped a 64-yard drive which started with a 38-yard reception by Ja’tyrian Moore from Tristan Claiborne. Loredo tacked on an extra point kick to give THS a 10-0 lead which held up until 8:32 left in the game. Daylon Ford scored the Pirates first touchdown on a 25-yard keeper run. Cesar Sanchez added and extra point to cut Tenaha’s lead to 10-7.

Chilton moved into scoring position late in the fourth quarter. Cesar Sanchez nailed a clutch 21-yard field goal with six seconds left to go and the score was tied at 10-10.

Chilton recovered an onside kick after that score but the play clock expired when their quarterback was sacked on the final play of regulation. This sent the game in to overtime to break the tie.

The Pirates got the ball first in the extra period, and on 3rd-and-goal Luis Fernandez plowed in the endzone for a 4-yard touchdown run and the first Pirate lead of the game. Sanchez’s ensuing extra point kick made the score 17-10 in Chilton’s favor for their first lead.

Tenaha had a chance to answer but disaster struck on the Tiger’s second play of overtime, the Pirates intercepted the ball in the end zone to clinch the win and end Tenaha’s season.

The Pirates (10-1) advance to face their old district rivals the Bremond Tigers(6-6) in the third round, as both District 10-2A II teams have managed to meet up again in the postseason.
