TxDOT Encourages Public to Prepare for Hurricane Beryl

July 6, 2024 - The Lufkin District is preparing to open its Emergency Operations Center ahead of the impacts expected in East Texas from Hurricane Beryl.

Crews will begin working 12-hour shifts beginning Monday at 7 am in order to begin monitoring and clearing the roadways of any debris caused from the incoming storm. TxDOT also encourages the public to make a plan to stay safe and prepare for winds, possible flooding, and any damage that could occur near their homes.

October is Deadly Month for Texas Pedestrians

As fall brings less daylight, TxDOT urges drivers to be extra vigilant about protecting pedestrians

October 3, 2023 – Fall and winter months bring shorter days and less light, making it harder for drivers to see—and safely avoid—pedestrians. October saw the highest number of pedestrian crashes in 2022. That’s why TxDOT is using National Pedestrian Safety Month to continue its “Be Safe. Drive Smart.” campaign and remind Texans that pedestrians are our most vulnerable road users.

TxDOT Resurfacing Project Beginning in Various Counties

August 22, 2023 - A pre-construction meeting was held at the Lufkin District Office on Tuesday signaling the beginning of a new construction project. Crews are setting barricades and signage that will include roadway resurfacing in several district locations. Work is expected to begin August 29, 2023 with completion for this project set for May 2024, weather permitting.
