Are you excited about the Semiquincentennial? That’s a mouthful! I’m talking, of course, about our nation’s 250th anniversary - just a week away. Maybe you’re old enough to remember where you were when America celebrated her 200th birthday, the Bicentennial. I was 19, with a year of college under my belt, and no clue whatsoever about what I wanted to be when I grew up.

Yesterday I reminded our readers that this Sunday is Father’s Day. But it’s also another notable occasion. It’s the first day of summer. Here in Texas we don’t wait for the official date - it’s felt like summer for a while now. You’ve probably heard the joke - What are the Four Texas Seasons? Almost Summer, Summer, Still Summer, and Christmas. Not too far from the truth.

Well, another Father’s Day is on the horizon. I’m sure you’ll take the opportunity this Sunday to thank your dad, or remember him. I’m taking that opportunity today, because on June 18, 1913, Travis Lamar Mathis was born. Sometimes my dad’s birthday would fall on Father’s Day - only one necktie or bottle of cologne that year!

June 17, 2026 - Good Morning! It’s Wednesday, June 17.

Did you go to Sunday School when you were a kid? I’ll bet you did. And I’ll bet you loved the Bible stories, just like me - stories like Daniel and the Lion’s Den, Noah and the Ark, Ezekiel and the Dry Bones! Those stories were music to this second-grader’s ears. But my all time favorite Bible story (you’ve probably already guessed it) was David and Goliath. Maybe it was yours. Maybe it still is. But did you know there’s a sequel?

June 16, 2026 - Good Morning! It’s Tuesday, June 16.

Bet you didn’t think this morning’s devotion would be about snow. I read somewhere that the Eskimos have hundreds of different names for snow. I’m not sure that’s true, but it’s an interesting idea - the idea that the more important something is to you, the more you’ll focus on it, and the more ways you’ll find to describe it. Snow must be pretty important to Eskimos.

With that in mind, here - off the top of my head - are some synonyms for the word “heaven.”
