As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? A fireman? An astronaut? The president! When I was little I wanted to work in a zoo. And now - I live next door to one. Well, not quite. But sometimes it feels like it. Here’s a list of my next door neighbors - dogs, cats, cows, horses, ponies, sheep, goats, turkeys, chickens, and pot bellied pigs. At one time or the other, most all of them have paid me a visit. And I have to tell you - I love it!

On February 24, 1909, a new business was started. It was called the Hudson Motor Car Company, and it became very, very successful. At its peak, it was a close third behind Ford and Chevrolet. Millions of people around the world drove Hudson cars.
February 23, 2026 - Good Morning! It’s Monday, February 23.
The Bible is a book that teaches us in many different ways. There are verses that explain doctrine, there are poems of praise, there are characters who serve as examples. And then there are the stories. As children, these stories are the gateway to understanding who God is, and these stories guide us throughout our lives. One of the most dramatic stories in the Word is the Tower of Babel.

On February 20, 1986, a commercial aired on broadcast TV that featured the actor Yul Brynner. He spoke about the dangers of smoking. Why was this big news? Because Brynner had died four months earlier - from lung cancer. It was a message from the grave, and it made a powerful impression.
February 19, 2026 - Good Morning! It’s Thursday, February 19.
It’s been a bit of a topsy-turvy winter here in Tenaha. Today the temperature is supposed to top 80 degrees, and just three weeks ago we were in the middle of an ice storm. Oh well... Texas weather! During that icy week, the electricity at my house was off for seven days. Lots of candles and flashlights and occasional stumbling around at night. We went to bed with the chickens and got up with the chickens. And we don’t even have any chickens!

On this day, in the year 303, the Roman emperor Diocletian ushered in Rome’s final and bloodiest period of Christian persecution, a period that saw churches closed, scripture destroyed, and believers martyred.
February 17, 2026 - Good Morning! It’s Tuesday, February 17. Happy Mardi Gras! The term “Mardi Gras” is French for “Fat Tuesday”, and signifies the day before Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent, the season that leads to Easter. Why the adjective “fat”? The tradition was to indulge in rich foods and merriment on this day, things that would be discouraged during Lent.
February 16, 2026 - Good Morning! It’s Monday, February 16. Happy President’s Day! This is one of those three-day-weekend holidays that doesn’t have any special songs or traditions, or really much meaning or resonance. The birthdays of Lincoln and Washington are both around this time of February, so I guess that’s the connection. Perhaps it could be a day to remember and honor all of our U.S. presidents.
