David’s Daily Devotion for Nov. 19

November 19, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Wednesday, November 19.

We continue our Thanksgiving series, in an attempt to raise the importance of a holiday that often does not get its due. Unlike Christmas, the fourth Thursday in November, passes all too quickly, with little thought to its meaning or its message. But, just like Christmas, Thanksgiving has some great songs. Here’s the story behind one of them.

David’s Daily Devotion for Nov. 18

November 18, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Tuesday, November 18.

Thanksgiving is nine days away, and we continue our series on thankfulness, preparing our minds and hearts for this important holiday. Over the next two weeks we’ll look at stories behind some thankful songs, stories behind some thankful Bible characters, and wisdom on this foundational subject from Christ himself. But this morning, the unlikely trio of Albert Einstein, Paul McCartney, and the Apostle Paul, teach us about the connection between thankfulness and humility.

David's Daily Devotion for November 17

November 17, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Monday, November 17.

Christmas is coming! Actually, it’s been coming for a while, with Yuletide items on store shelves for weeks and weeks. We give Christmas a “wide berth.” We give it plenty of room, plenty of focus, plenty of time. But most holidays are just one day affairs, one-offs, one and done. Usually that’s fine with me. One day to feed candy to the little neighborhood monsters, one day to buy candy for our sweethearts, one day to - well, do whatever it is we’re supposed to do on Arbor Day.

David's Daily Devotion for November 14

November 14, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Friday, November 14.

There are many different ways to study God’s Word. Some prefer a topical style, others pursue a verse by verse technique, while still others like a deep approach. Here at the Daily Devotion we take biblical stories, characters, and scriptures, and weave them together with cultural themes, historical moments, and everyday experiences. I pray that these little thoughts are a blessing.

David’s Daily Devotion for Nov. 13

November 13, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Thursday, November 13.

Today is the birthday of Texas governor, Greg Abbott. He follows in a long line of chief executives of our state who were well known across the country. The list includes Abbott’s predecessor, Rick Perry, who ran for president; John Connally, who was riding in the car with President Kennedy that fateful day in November 1963; and Sam Houston, who was also the first president of the Republic of Texas.

David's Daily Devotion for November 12

November 12, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Wednesday, November 12.

I love a good “word picture.” A phrase, carefully crafted, that when you read it, causes you to think about something in a brand-new way. The Apostle Paul paints many of these word pictures for us. In Hebrews 12 - “We are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses”. In I Corinthians 12 - “What if the ear says, I am not an eye, so I am not a part of the body.” In I Corinthians 13 - “Now we see through a glass darkly”. And he does it again in the first words of the 5th chapter of Romans.

David’s Daily Devotion for Nov. 11

November 11, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Tuesday, November 11.

On this Veteran’s Day, we focus on the story behind the song, “Onward Christian Soldiers”. The lyrics were written in 1865 by British pastor and novelist, Sabine Baring-Gould (what a great name!). The music was composed by Arthur Sullivan, famous as one half of the Gilbert and Sullivan operetta team.

David's Daily Devotion for November 7

November 7, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Friday, November 7.

I’ve been musing this morning on the fickleness of fame. There have always been famous people who are deemed “unworthy” of their notoriety. People who are infamous because of evil deeds, or those who become well known through some odd trick of celebrity (any member of the Kardashian family). But, all in all, we still assume that if you have enough talent, history is bound to reward you with fame. History, however, tells us that this is often a false assumption.

David's Daily Devotion for November 6

November 6, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Thursday, November 6.

I love lists. I love making lists. To-do lists, shopping lists, top-ten lists. Lists of favorite movies, lists of favorite songs, lists of favorite lists! (OK, sometimes it gets a little out-of-hand). Well, we’re just three weeks away from Thanksgiving, so it’s a perfect time to list the things we’re thankful for. Here, off the top of my head, is a list of some of my favorite things... about Autumn.
