David's Daily Devotion for July 21

July 21, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Monday, July 21.

Change. When I was a boy that meant money in my pocket. My grandfather called it “silver.” I loved to hear the jingle-jangle sound when I walked - made me feel rich! And there were lots of things that a pocketful of change could buy.

But all that has changed. I don’t carry coins around anymore. I don’t really use cash that much, so there’s not much change coming back. Today, the word has a different meaning, and unlike the definition from my childhood, it’s not something that’s always welcomed or treasured.

David’s Daily Devotion for July 18

July 18, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Friday, July 18.

In the summer of 1975, 50 years ago this week, something truly remarkable occurred in outer space. An American spaceship docked with a Russian spaceship, and U.S. Captain Tom Stafford and Soviet Captain Alexei Leonov exchanged an historic handshake. Besides being a feat of engineering, it was an amazing cultural moment. Ten years before, our two nations had viewed the exploration of space as a fierce competition, a facet of the Cold War. We didn’t just want to get to the moon, we wanted to beat the Russians there.

David's Daily Devotion for July 17

July 17, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Thursday, July 17.

The Christian songwriting couple, Bill and Gloria Gaither, have produced so many classic gospel songs over the years - “Because He Lives”, “The King is Coming”, “He Touched Me” - just to name a few. But I think my favorite Gaither song is “The Longer I Serve Him”.

David’s Daily Devotion for July 16

Good Morning! It’s Wednesday, July 16.

In the Bible there are stories of at least ten people who were raised from the dead. The Old Testament prophet Elijah raised one of them, as did the prophet Elisha. In the New Testament Peter brought Tabitha back to life, and Paul brought life back to Eutychus. But the majority of those ten lucky people were raised by Jesus. Can you name them? Most of us can only name one. And he is the subject of today’s devotional . . . Lazarus.

David’s Daily Devotion for July 15

July 15, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Tuesday, July 15.

I love crossword puzzles. And every day I try to complete the one in The New York Times newspaper. It’s the “gold standard” - the best of the best. I grew up in Houston and started doing the Houston Chronicle crossword when I was a kid. Good puzzle. But not the best. But the best that a South Texas boy could get his hands on.

David's Daily Devotion for July 14

July 14, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Monday, July 14.

Have you ever taken a wrong turn in your life? Found yourself going in the wrong direction? Douglas Corrigan became famous for doing just that. He was born in Galveston, Texas in 1907, and was always fascinated by one thing - airplanes. He became a pilot and flight mechanic, and was part of the team that prepared “The Spirit of St. Louis”, the plane that Charles Lindbergh piloted across the Atlantic in his historic flight.

David's Daily Devotion for July 10

July 10, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Thursday, July 10.

In early July, 1776, the Revolutionary War had been going on for over a year. General George Washington was in New York City with the bulk of his army, about 20,000 men. And in New York Harbor were hundreds of British ships carrying over 30,000 enemy soldiers, poised to lay siege to that crucial city.

David’s Daily Devotional for July 9

July 9, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Wednesday, July 9.

What is the middle verse of the Bible? Well, that depends on which translation you use. There are variations in chapters and verses between the different versions of the Word. The King James Version (good enough for Jesus, good enough for me!) has 31,102 verses. Since that’s an even number, there is no center verse.  But the center pair of verses is Psalm 103:1-2.

“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits.”
