June 7, 2022 - Good Morning! It’s Tuesday, June 7.
We survived our first day of Vacation Bible School! Actually, it was a good day - lots of kids, lots of excitement, and God blessed. To Him be the glory.
Today is opening day for Vacation Bible School at my church. It’s going to be busy! It’s going to be blessed! And of all the VBS activities, perhaps the one that’s the biggest blessing... is scripture memorization. I have no doubt that some of the verses that are firmly implanted in my brain were ones that I learned, as a child, at Vacation Bible School.
June 4, 2022 - On June 4, 1989, a man stood up to power, and made a difference. In Beijing, China, since April of that year, students had been gathering in Tiananmen Square, to protest the oppressive Chinese government. They marched for free speech. They demonstrated for democracy. They worked for change.
Yesterday, children from all over America met in Washington D.C. for the National Spelling Bee. That’s been happening every year since 1925. This year the winner received a trophy and 50,000 dollars!
June 2, 2022 - Good Morning! It’s Thursday, June 2.
Did you go to Vacation Bible School when you were a kid? I imagine you did. Lots of great memories. The 2022 version of VBS is different, in many ways, from the ones I remember. But some things remain the same.
Here at First Baptist Center, we are T-Minus 5 days until Vacation Bible School! It all starts next Monday, June 6, and runs through Friday, June 10. Children ages 4 through 6th grade will enjoy music and crafts and missions and snacks and Bible study and recreation. Go to fbccenter.org to find out more and to register.
May 31, 2022 - Good Morning! It’s Tuesday, May 31.
On May 31, 2010. Chris Haney passed away. Don’t know who that is? No reason you should. But you know his creation. In December, 1979, Chris was a young journalist in Canada. He and a friend decided to play a game of Scrabble, but discovered that some of the letter tiles were missing. So, instead, they created their own game. They called it Trivial Pursuit. It became the “hot” game of the ‘80’s and, to date, has sold over 100 million sets for over a billion dollars. Not trivial at all.
This coming Monday, all across America, communities will be gathering... to remember. Here in Shelby County Texas we’ll meet at 11am at our Civic Center. There will be solemn ceremony and there will be uplifting patriotic music.
This coming Monday, of course, is Memorial Day. A day set aside each year to remember those men and women in uniform who gave their lives to protect our freedom. Here in Shelby County, Texas there will be a Memorial Day event at 11AM at our Civic Center. I’ll be sharing some patriotic music for the ceremony and invite all our local readers to join us!
