July 12, 2015 - Years ago it was the drought; this year it was the rain. The largest watermelon entry for 2015 was Doug Cogswell's melon which weighed 96 pounds.
July 12, 2015 - Competition was tough at the What-A-Melon Festival Seed Spitting and Speed Eating events held under the big tent during Saturday's festival activities. Special judges in the Speed Eating competition were Tanya Echols from Cleburne, Texas and Kaye Weiland from Burleson, Texas who had scheduled their vacation to include three days of What-A-Melon Festival activites.
July 8, 2015 - The DRT Travellin' Trunk made its way to the Summer reading program for Tweens at the Fannie Brown Booth Library in Center and gave a glimpse into every day life in early Texas.
July 9, 2015 - Maggie Casto, Gail Sholar and Cynthia Webster of the William Carroll Crawford Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, presented a book, "Magnificent Sam" to Sandra Davis for the children's section of the Fannie Brown Booth Library in Center.
July 8, 2015 - A raffle fundraiser presented by Timpson Masonic Lodge #437 was held on July 4, 2015 during Timpson Frontier Days and the winners were announced on Monday, July 6, 2015. The wooden cooler was presented to winner Jason Fulbright on Monday, July 6, 2015.
July 7, 2015 - VFW Post 8904 and the Ladies Auxiliary were joined by Uncle Sam on Saturday, July 4th as they visited the staff, residents and veterans at Holiday Nursing Home.
Afterwards Uncle Sam stopped by Walmart and wished shoppers and workers a happy 4th.
July 6, 2015 - JJ Ford of the Center Rotary Club presented a donation to Denise Belrose of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Deep East Texas on Tuesday, June 30, 2015. CASA is appreciative of the Center Rotary Club's continued support of this non-profit organization.
