June 11, 2021 - The Fannie Brown Booth Library Summer Reading/Learning Program got off to a great start.
On Wednesday morning, our Preschool Story Time for ages 2-5 years resumed with a bang. Our story, 'The Monkey Goes Bananas,' was dramatically read by Terri Lacher. Crafts and music were enjoyed by all.
On Thursday, our Imagineers (ages 6-8) had a blast building marshmallow shooters, rocket launchers and learning about propulsion. The Tweens (ages 9-13) learned valuable skills in map-reading and enjoyed a race to find the shortest route to South Padre Island.
June 10, 2021 - LeTourneau University held Spring 2021 commencement services recently for around 200 graduates who received bachelor's and master's degrees. Among them were Hana Bonner Of Joaquin who received a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, Magna Cum Laude.
June 3, 2021 - June is Hunger Awareness Month in Shelby County. Statistics show that 1 out of 3 children in our county battle with food insecurity, which means that they do not know where their next meal will come from.
Shelby County Outreach Ministries strives to feed the hungry and assist the needy. We have 4 programs that serve our community.
June 2, 2021 - On May 28, several members of Center Garden Club met with Mayor David Chadwick as he signed a proclamation designating June the 5th-12th, 2021, as National Garden Week. Both Center Garden Club (in affiliation with the National Garden Club) and the City of Center salute all gardeners for it is “gardeners “(in the broadest sense of the word)) who provide our world with food, medicines, building materials, habitats for wildlife, shade, oxygen, clean air and water, recreation, and, of course, beauty and joy.
June 1, 2021 - Shelby County Outreach Ministries is excited to announce that on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, all programs will be opened to the public! The Senior Nutrition Site will be open Monday – Friday from 9-2. The Unique Boutique is open Monday – Friday from 9-4 and the Helping Hands Outreach Center will be open Monday – Friday from 9-2. The Outreach Center distributes emergency food boxes to those who qualify and assists with various needs such as prescriptions, doctor visits, Ensure, and more.
