"Patsy, The Patsy" by Neal Murphy

October 31, 2022 - Jobs were hard to find in 1958, the year I was married. I was classified “1A” by the Selective Service System, which meant that I was facing being drafted into the army. No company wanted to hire me, only to have me leave within a year. After spending three months in the Golden Triangle area of Beaumont, Orange, and Port Arthur without finding work, my new bride and I decided to move back home and await the inevitable “Greetings” letter from Uncle Sam.

Waterfowl Hunters Can Lend a Hand to Prevent Spread of Invasive Species

October 28, 2022 – The new waterfowl hunting season is just around the corner and hunters across the state are gearing up in anticipation for opening day. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) reminds waterfowl hunters to join the fight against the spread of aquatic invasive species like giant salvinia and zebra mussels. Hunters play a key role in this preventive effort when they clean, drain and dry their boats and equipment, including decoys and other hunting gear, before traveling from lake to lake.

David's Daily Devotion for October 28

October 28, 2022 - Good Morning! It's Friday, October 28.

This past Wednesday, my church met in our Family Life Center for a "Fall Family Fellowship". There was a chili cook-off, a costume contest, a pumpkin carving competition, and a fine time was had by one and all. Our church is going through a time of transition right now - we're without a pastor. And in times of transition, times of change, family becomes especially important. When we face challenges, we reach out to family, to those we love - and they reach back to us.

U.S. Forest Service Officials Urge Hunters to Use Caution in the Woods

October 27, 2022 – As gun deer hunting season begins, U.S. Forest Service officials remind hunters of guidelines designed to make their hunting trips to the national forest safe and enjoyable while sustaining the health of the forests.

“Hunting season is one of the busiest times in the forest, and safety is always a primary concern,” said Forest Supervisor Kimpton Cooper. “Visitors should check their surroundings and be aware of the possibility of falling limbs or trees. Remember, being outside is great, but you are responsible for your safety.”

David’s Daily Devotion for Oct. 26

October 26, 2022 - Good Morning!  It’s Wednesday, October 26.

On this day, in 1901, a bank robbery occurred in Paris, France. As they exited the bank, the thieves didn’t run away on foot, or ride off on horses. They made their escape in a new-dangled invention called an automobile. They got away in the very first “getaway car”!

So, since a car was used in a criminal act, does that make a car evil? Of course not. A thing is just a thing. It’s all in the way one chooses to use it that makes the difference. And the same thing can be true . . . with the Bible.
