David's Daily Devotion for November 17

November 17, 2022 - Good Morning! It’s Thursday, November 17.

Part of my job at First Baptist Center is to choose songs for worship services. When I began my ministry career four decades ago, there was only one source for all those choices - the hymnal. In the 21st century our worship song sources are man y and are readily available. With more choice comes more convenience, but also more complications and challenge.

Across the Preacher’s Desk: Are We One of The Nine?

November 17, 2022 - Dr. Luke records a story for us in Luke 17 that occurred one day when Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem and was passing through Samaria and Galilee. Jesus was approached by ten lepers, miserable creatures afflicted with a horrific disease. They cried out to Jesus for mercy and He told them to go and show themselves to the priests. While they were on their way, they were cleansed. We are told that only one of the ten returned to Jesus to say “thank you.” Jesus asked the question, “were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine?”

November 16, 2022 - Quit food safety confusion cold turkey this Thanksgiving! While this holiday is a great time to spend with family and friends, it’s also time to bust some myths.

Myth 1:  Refrigerating a whole cooked turkey is safe

False! Always carve your turkey after cooking. A whole cooked turkey will not cool quickly enough, thus putting it at risk for bacterial growth. Carve the turkey into smaller pieces so it cools faster in the refrigerator.

Myth 2: Thawing a turkey on the counter is safe.

David's Daily Devotion for November 16

November 16, 2022 - Good Morning! It's Wednesday, November 16.

The earth was literally shaking early this morning at Cape Canaveral in South Florida. The mighty Artemis rocket, 100 meters tall, the most powerful in history, lifted off at the Kennedy Space Center. Artemis is costing taxpayers about 34 billion dollars, but NASA is excited to be on its way... BACK to the moon??? Didn't we do that over 50 years ago? Is it just me, or is getting Americans excited about this space program, a particularly hard sell?

“Clara’s Culinary Calamities” by Neal Murphy

November 14, 2022 - When we were married in 1958 Clara knew nothing about cooking. Since I knew a lot about eating she made it her mission to learn all about preparing food fit for a king. I knew she must have thought of me as a king because she was always presenting me with burnt offerings. My, how things have changed over the years. I no longer receive burnt offerings from her as she has become a great cook.
