Texas Sees 17% Increase in Traffic Deaths Involving Distracted Driving

April 21, 2022 – Distracted driving deaths in Texas increased 17% in 2021 compared to 2020, claiming the lives of 431 people and seriously injuring another 2,934. In light of these grim statistics, TxDOT is conducting its annual Talk. Text. Crash. campaign during National Distracted Driving Awareness Month in April to urge Texans to keep their heads up, put their phones down and just drive.

Texas A&M Forest Service Encourages Building a Go-kit for Wildfires, Disasters

April 20, 2022 — We can’t control when disasters strike, but we can make sure we are prepared. During the Emergency Preparation Supplies Sales Tax Holiday this weekend, Texans can pick up essential items for their evacuation go-kits tax-free.

“When disasters such as wildfires, hurricanes, winter storms and tornados arise requiring you to leave your home, being prepared ahead of time can save precious time and help keep your family safe during an emergency,” said Karen Stafford, Texas A&M Forest Service Wildfire Prevention Coordinator.

Transportation Commissioner Approve New Projects

April 20, 2022 - Texas Transportation Commissioners met Wednesday in Austin and approved more than 253.1 million for construction projects statewide, with more than $28.3 million approved for the Lufkin District.

Houston County was approved for a $27.8 million bridge replacement project on SH 21 at the Trinity River. A.L. Helmcamp, Inc., Buffalo TX, will serve as contractor for the project. No timeline for completion has been set.

April 20, 2022 - Good Morning! It’s Wednesday, April 20.

We continue today with our brief focus on the New Testament, in preparation for the unique Bible study “Walk Through the New Testament” at my church this Sunday. Over the next three days we’ll look at three favorite stories.

The majority of a child’s favorite Bible stories come from the Old Testament - Noah’s Ark, David & Goliath, Daniel in the Lion’s Den - just to name a few. But there are wonderful stories in the New Testament as well. Some of them, like today’s example, are parables.
