Comptroller’s Office Encourages Homeowners to Take Advantage of Homestead Exemptions

February 6, 2018 - One of the easiest ways a homeowner can lower his or her property tax bill is to file a homestead exemption. A homestead is generally the house and land used as the owner’s principal residence on Jan. 1 of the tax year.

Homestead exemptions reduce the appraised value of your home and, as a result, lower your property taxes. To apply for an exemption on your residence homestead, contact the Shelby County Appraisal District.

Foreign Persons Must Report U.S. Agricultural Land Holdings

February 3, 2018 Nacogdoches – U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) Executive Director Lance Jacobs in Nacogdoches-Angelina-Trinity-San Augustine-Shelby County reminds foreign persons with an interest in agricultural lands in the United States that they are required to report their holdings and any transactions to the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture.

Work Continues in Shelby County; Widening Project South of Huntington in Progress

February 2, 2018 - Crews are in full work mode on US 69 South on a construction project to widen the roadway. Work is scheduled next week to cement treat the subgrade from the Huntington city limits to FM 844. The project will widen the roadway from two lanes to a four-lane highway with a continuous two-way left turn lane. 

SFA’s Office of Multicultural Affairs to Host Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration

February 2, 2018 - Stephen F. Austin State University’s Office of Multicultural Affairs will host an MLK Celebration for members of the SFA and Nacogdoches communities to celebrate the life and legacy of civil rights activist Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., beginning at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center’s Twilight Ballroom on the SFA campus.
