March 25, 2015 - One of the wildest, most spirited and extremely heartwarming RodeoHouston® events is the Calf Scramble. With the drop of a cowboy hat, the calves are signaled to be released onto the dirt arena for 30 Texas 4-H and FFA members to chase and catch using only a rope halter. The number of students is always greater than the number of calves. With teenagers and calves darting in every direction across the NRG Stadium floor, the calf scramble is one of the most chaotic, unscripted and beloved events of the Rodeo.
February 27, 2015 - Joaquin, TX — All first graders at Joaquin Elementary School recently received free prevent tooth decay kits through the Fantastic Teeth Fan Club. Members of Joaquin Masonic Lodge, led by Jay Wilson, assembled and delivered kits to the school.
The Fantastic Teeth Fan Club, sponsored by Masonic Home and School of Texas, strives to prevent suffering from toothaches, reduce missed school days due to dental problems, and cut costs for dental treatment.
February 17, 2015 - The Board conducted a public hearing in accordance with Texas Education Code 39.053 to discuss the District’s educational performance on the Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR) during its’ regular February 16th board meeting at 6pm in the Joaquin Board Room.
February 16, 2015 - Joaquin ISD Powerlifting team participated in the February 5th Kirbyville Power Lifting Meet and took 1st place in 5 different weight classes. In the men's weight classes Case Chambliss, Nate Belrose, and Zach Bell each took 1st place in their weight class. In the women's weight classes Jaz Atkins and Desere Cooper both took 1st place in their class.
February 16, 2015 - February is Dental Health Month. Joaquin Elementary first grade students were nominated by Mr. Jay Wilson and the Joaquin Masonic Lodge to receive a dental presentation and free preventative tooth decay kits.
February 2015 - The FFA Show Team from Joaquin came home overjoyed following the most successful overall appearance at a “Major” livestock show this last week at the Fort Worth Stock Show. Saturday morning, Abi Hooper started the Jr. Breeding Heifer Show with her Shorthorn winning 1st place in her class. Soon after, Cralon Hughes placed 3rd in his class of Brangus heifers. Later that day, Justin Hooper’s Beefmaster won 2nd Place out of 19 November-born calves. Sunday afternoon, Addi Harvey’s Angus placed 4th in a competitive class of 22 Angus heifers.
February 10, 2015 - The junior high 22-2A basketball district recently came to an end for many area teams. Joaquin had three teams finish with top honors. The 8th grade boys finished their outstanding season with a district record of 9-1 earning the title of District Champions. The 7th grade girls also finished the district race with a record of 9-1 taking the title of district champs. The 7th grade boys completed district with a 9-1 record earning them top honors also.
February 10, 2015 - Joaquin High School STAR Student is sophomore Reagan Parker Hovey, son of Todd and Mary Hovey. This young man is gifted in many areas, so much that teachers are in awed by his contrasting humble, modest demeanor.
January 15, 2015 - The Joaquin FFA held their 3rd annual Joaquin AgBackers Livestock Show Saturday, January 3rd at the Panola County Expo Center in Carthage, Texas. FFA and 4H members braved the bad weather to participate in the successful two-ring event exhibiting 14 goats, 15 lambs, 18 steers, and 84 heifers.
December 18, 2014 - The Joaquin FFA Show Team participated in the Timpson Ag Boosters Livestock Show at the Shelby County Expo Center last Saturday, December 13th. They showed their calves exceptionally well, earning a total of 7 buckles as well as other top honors.
