June 2, 2021 - A Shelby County Grand Jury handed down 61 indictments including a capital murder case from April 2021 on Thursday, May 27, 2021.
The grand jury was impaneled for the July 2020 term of the 123rd Judicial District Court, and grand jury was held in both the 123rd and 273rd Judicial District courts. Due to COVID-19, there has been a backlog of cases and the grand jury impaneled just before pandemic restrictions were put in place is meeting again to complete their duties.
June 2, 2021 - On May 31, 2021, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality required the Shelbyville public water system, 2100014 to issue a Boil Water Notice to inform customers, individuals, or employees that due to conditions which occurred recently in the public water system, the water from this public water system was required to be boiled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes.
June 1, 2021 - DPS Troopers responded to a two-vehicle fatal crash on US-59 on May 29, 2021 at 11:01pm, approximately nine miles south of the city of Carthage in Panola County. The investigators preliminary report indicates that the driver of a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling the wrong way on the multilane divided highway. The driver was southbound in the north bound lanes when it struck a 2015 Ford F150 head on.
May 31, 2021 - According to the Texas DSHS Covid-19 Dashboard, there have been 1 new death, 33 new cases, and 35 new recoveries reported during the month of May.
The active cases went from 20 at the end of April down to 17 at the end of May.

May 27, 2021 - Texas Transportation Commissioners on Wednesday approved more than $271.5 million in new construction projects statewide, with more than $12.1 million earmarked for projects in the Lufkin District.
Angelina County was approved for bridge replacements on FM 2497 totaling $5.2 million. The work will be in two locations, at Cedar Creek and Cedar Creek Relief at the estimated costs of $2.6 for each location. There has been no timeline for completion set.
