“Just Curious” by Doug Fincher

May 17, 2022 - When I built my first Gun Ship on Highway 96 in Lumberton, Texas (1975), James Van Cleef was one of my first customers.  He lived in Port Neches, Texas and was a butcher in a large grocery store there. His interest in firearms was limited to Colt Single action pistols…no rifles or shotguns…just Colt revolvers.  We became close friends and learned a lot from each other.

David’s Daily Devotion for May 17

May 17, 2022 - Good Morning! It's Tuesday, May 17.

On May 17, 1971, a musical premiered at a little theater in New York City. It was called "Godspell" and took its theme from the Book of Matthew, from Christ's famous Sermon on the Mount. In 1973, the "little musical that could" was turned into a successful Hollywood movie. And the live production has been playing somewhere in the world pretty much ever since.

"What's Happened to the Newsboy?"

May 13, 2022 - When I was growing up in the 1940’s and 1950’s in San Augustine, Texas, I can recall only two newspapers, the San Augustine Tribune, and the Beaumont Enterprise that were common to us. As far as I can recall, the Tribune was never delivered by newsboys. The Enterprise was usually delivered by an adult in an automobile.

In the big cities newsboys were commonly used by news papers to deliver their papers in neighborhoods. It would appear that these newsboys are no longer being used by the few remaining large newspapers across the nation.

David's Daily Devotion for May 12

May 12, 2022 - Good Morning!  It’s Thursday, May 12.

What are the best selling books in history?  The novel "Don Quixote" is said to have sold 400 million copies and Charles Dicken’s "A Tale of Two Cities" 200 million. The "Harry Potter" book series tops out at 500 million and my favorite novel, "To Kill a Mockingbird", has sold 40 million.

David’s Daily Devotion for May 11

May 11, 2022 - Yesterday afternoon I was driving back to Center, Texas from Tulsa, Oklahoma. I sometimes think of Oklahoma looking just like West Texas. And some of it does. But yesterday afternoon I drove through beautiful rolling hills and vast green pastures. At one point I looked out, and on one of those beautiful hills were hundreds and hundreds of grazing cows. It was a picture. It was a picture worth a thousand words. It was a picture that reminded me of these words -

Every beast of the forest is mine, says the Lord, the cattle on a thousand hills. Psalm 50:10
