On June 15, 1976, something totally unexpected occurred - a Major League Baseball game was rained out. Not that unexpected, you say? Happens all the time, you say? Well, this particular game, called off for rain, was set to be played in the Astrodome - indoors!

Each Sunday evening our church family meets for a time of fellowship, praise and worship, testimony, prayer, and a Bible study from our interim pastor, Dr. Tim Watson. Last Sunday night, Bro. Tim's text was Matthew 13:1, a verse that I didn't remember hearing before. It says this - "And on that day, Jesus went and sat by the sea."

On June 12, 1942, a young girl turned thirteen. One of her birthday gifts was a small book with a lock on the front, a diary. She began writing in it that very first day, but wondered how the happenings of her humdrum life could ever fill its' pages. Less than a month later, the life of Anne Frank changed forever.
Starting next Monday, we'll return to our regular Daily Devotion format. But I pray you've enjoyed this week, filled with some of my favorite scriptures. It's "Hump Day" for Vacation Bible School at my church. We're halfway through the journey. Anyone who has ever worked in a VBS knows that it's a busy time. So, this week I'm letting the Bible speak for itself. No "two-cents" from me. Maybe that's something we should do more often. This morning we begin Vacation Bible School at First Baptist Church Center. I've chosen 25 of my favorite Bible verses and will share five each day this week. No commentary. No teaching. Just the Word of God speaking for itself, speaking with power, speaking with wisdom.
You're familiar, I'm sure, with the statement, "It takes a village to raise a child". Well, I believe that this statement is also true, "It takes a church to raise a child". In Proverbs 22:16, we find this statement, "Start children off on the way that they should go, and even when they are old, they will not turn from it".
